RV manufacturers’ shipments up 17% – Still good news, bad news

Wholesale shipments of RVs to dealers showed their 9th straight increase over the same months of 2023.

While RV manufacturers’ shipments are up 17%, it’s still a good news, bad news scenario. Good news for towable builders, but lousy news if you make motorhomes.

RV manufacturers’ shipments—Good news for towables

The RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) July 2024 survey of manufacturers found that total RV shipments ended the month with 24,116 units shipped, an increase of 17.5% compared to the 20,520 units shipped in July 2023. Wholesale shipments have had a year-over-year increase for nine consecutive months, going back to November 2023.

In the “good news” column, towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month up 21.8% from last July with 21,560 shipments.

But motorhomes continued to sink, as they finished the month down (-9.4%) compared to the same month last year with 2,556 units.

How do July wholesale movements compare to June’s? Motorhomes finished last month down 33.2%, so July saw a significant improvement, comparing the two 2024 months. But with the end of travel season approaching, it may be too little, too late.

Park models continue downward trend

Park models didn’t have a happy month. Park Model RVs finished July down (-13.8%) compared to the same month last year, with 337 wholesale shipments.

“July’s shipments continue this year’s moderate year over year gains,” said RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby. “As the summer comes to a close and kids head back to school, 27 million Americans are planning to go RVing this fall to take in some of the best weather and enjoy outdoor experiences with family and friends.”

They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 Well, … these numbers imply to me that I could get a pretty good deal on a 2025 DP right now, BUT …, oh well. 🤔 Thanks again, have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂

Thanks, Mikal! Sadly, we will have a trade-in, but can bring cash. Brett Davis said a few months ago was going to be a great time to buy an RV, but we missed that window. 🙁 Looks as though our (as in me AND DW) willingness will not happen until next fall, if then. Promised DW that EVERY RV that we own gets to go to Alaska and RV #2 has not been there yet. Have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
