In 2025, Acadia National Park will launch a new reservation system aimed at improving access to its popular campgrounds. Starting December 1, reservations for Blackwoods, Seawall, and Schoodic Woods campgrounds will be available six months in advance, providing visitors with more planning time.
Under the revised system, 90% of campground spots will be released up to six months before the intended stay. The remaining 10% of sites, including same-day reservations, will be made available two weeks before arrival.
Campers planning to visit in May 2025 can begin booking on December 1 at 10 a.m. EST, while June reservations will open on January 1, 2025, at the same time. All reservations must be made online via Recreation.gov, as the park will not accept in-person or phone reservations. Visitors can also modify their reservations during their stay, such as adjusting check-out dates.
Acadia National Park provides a variety of camping options, including two campgrounds on Mount Desert Island, one on the Schoodic Peninsula, and five lean-to shelters on Isle au Haut. Blackwoods Campground, located on the east side of Mount Desert Island, is known for its accessibility and proximity to Bar Harbor. Seawall Campground, on the west side of the island, offers a more coastal experience with 202 sites, including those for tents, RVs, and group camping. Schoodic Woods, located on the Schoodic Peninsula, is the newest addition, featuring 89 campsites with options for tents and RVs.

And still nothing to solve the no show problems?
“The more you enter, the better your odds!” method of reservations has made most online campsite reservations systems a joke. Until people have to pay for every single site they prevent others from using, the system will remain broken.
Thank you for the news, RV Travel! Happy new year!
