Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Basecamp 20X travel trailers. On certain model year 2022-2023 Basecamp trailers the spare tire carrier bracket mounted to the trailer chassis may experience metal fatigue and fail, causing the roadside spare tire carrier support arm to drop.
If the spare tire carrier bracket were to fail and the spare tire were to slip free from the carrier, the spare tire would become a hazard to vehicles traveling behind the trailer with the failed spare tire carrier. This increases the risk of personal injury and/or property damage. Airstream is not aware of any occurrences or injuries related to this condition. The cause of the failure is still to be determined.
A detached spare tire may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
The remedy is still under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 17, 2024. Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 ext. 7401 or 7411.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Great safety warning, for an airstream owner or someone that may be following one, thanks for the heads up..
Thank you, RV Travel! So, even Airstream? Thanks again, and happy new year! 🙂
We had this happen in our 2009 Trail-Lite Crossover. I saw a tire bouncing down the highway behind me, and realized it was my spare! Fortunately, there was no other traffic nearby.
