We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stop at Bobcat Creek RV Park right on the edge of Sayre, Oklahoma. This is what a small, family-run RV park should be! We pulled in needing a site and wanting propane for our 40-foot motorhome towing. We didn’t want to disconnect and the owner could not have been more helpful in moving a couple of cars to allow for wide swing and fill.
COVID and the mortuary
The family was in the mortuary business in Washington state, and after all the funerals and sadness of COVID they decided they needed to do something fun. It had just gotten too emotionally difficult. The family had always been avid campers and RVers, so a campground seemed like the perfect change and new business for them.
It’s a family affair
Carrie Burgess, and Douglas and Tina Heathcock bought the Bobcat Creek campground a year-and-a-half ago. They are a family of seven in three generations: Grandma, Grandpa, daughters Carrie and Tina, Tina’s husband Douglas, one grandson and his fiancée.
Searching for a campground
The family searched and searched the internet, and Bobcat Creek continued to come up. They had only been looking for a campground, not a convenience store and gas station, but they decided this must be the one for them.
The family all left Washington state in a caravan in December. In retrospect, December might not have been the best month to travel to Oklahoma!
Warm welcome
We had such a friendly welcome from the family. Carrie directed us to our spot and made sure we had the easiest way in down the hill. I liked that she suggested the best way but let my husband decide when he saw the turns. We had been warned that the water was off for a repair, and soon she stopped by to let us know her nephew had fixed it.
Upgrades and future plans
They have already made upgrades to the park, including installing a large propane tank, handing out dog treats, a dog playground and freshly cooked broasted chicken dinners. I had read about the delicious chicken dinners they deliver to the site, but we needed to finish up some leftovers first. They have dogs and knew how much a dog area was appreciated by RVers. At check-in, they asked if we had a pet, not to charge more but to hand out dog treats or a cat toy. The day a monkey checked in they just didn’t have a treat for it, though…
They are planning to add shower facilities in addition to the existing restrooms and laundry. The laundry is on the honor system—a dollar a load!
Enjoy!
Clean, clean, clean! The campground was so neat and clean. The trail through the woods on a warm spring day was a joy after sitting for hundreds of miles in the RV and in the cold weather when parked.
Relaxing in the warmth outside the RV, sitting at the picnic table, and watching the amazing sunset just made us happy campers.

Sounds great. Really hope they do well.
We agree, the folks at Bobcat Creek are some of the nicest, most helpful, we’ve come across. We’ve stayed twice as this is on the way to our winter destination and we look forward to staying again this fall. The chicken is excellent and much appreciated after long drive days. We are grateful they are where they are, doing what they do.
The CCC-built city park in Sayre, OK has long, well-spaced, gravel RV sites with water, 30/50 electric hookups, and a dump for $12/night. We have been using it for years. The park has a swimming pool, golf course, ball fields, picnic pavilions, and other amenities. We love it!
We, too, have overnighted at Bobcat Creek. Great park! Enjoyed a chicken dinner delivered to our RV. Great family owned RV park!!
Thank you, Nanci! Great review! You sold me! I’ve bookmarked their website and will make every effort to stay there when/if we are in Oklahoma. 🙂 Thanks again, and safe windless travels! 🙂
