Breaking: Tornado blasted Florida RV park – video

The National Weather Service posted a tornado warning for towns in the Florida panhandle earlier this morning. The warning was spot-on, as a tornado blasted a Florida RV park in Marianna, near the border with Alabama.

Video shot by a drone shows totally demolished RVs. The images show what remains of Florida Caverns RV Park on U.S. Highway 90. Although rumors had swirled that the twister had killed at least one person, law enforcement denies that statistic. At last report, seven people from the park had been injured, but none seriously.

Several tornadoes were reported across the Panhandle Tuesday morning as severe storms moved through the area. Actual Weather Service confirmation of the the tornado that blasted this Florida RV park and its potential strength have yet to be released.

Russ and Tiña went from childhood tent camping to RVing in the 1980s when the ground got too hard. They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! Wow! How awful. Not only does that area get hurricanes, but now it also gets tornados?! Yikes. We had some strong winds here in east Tennessee the last few days, but thankfully none of them approached the speed of a tornado’s winds. 🙂 Safe travels! 🙂

So sad. We stayed here in 2022 and really enjoyed the park. Hoping they will rebuild. I believe they suffer damage during Hurricane Michael, but rebuilt and was a great RV park. Grateful no one was seriously injured.

Yep, last Monday… We were 2 miles from where the first one touched down at 4:30 am, (Grayton Beach State Park, many of you know the 30A) then about an hour later a water spout came off the Gulf and onto land at Panama City beach ( highly unusual btw ) continuing north to Marianna where those photos were taken. Sheltered in the bathhouse when the warning came over the cell phone. NOT fun. The damage at Panama City was sad to see considering the damage caused by Michael in 2018.

Some trailers are upright, most are destroyed. Is there a difference in RV manufacturers and how are the RV’s fastened to the ground?

Our RV Rally group has a rally scheduled there Feb 15th. Just spoke with the property manager, Chuck, the day before this hit. If they can accommodate us by then, we’ll fill our agenda with repair and cleanup help, either at the RV Park or in the community. We did the same thing where we had a rally in Panama City Beach 6 weeks after Michael hit there Oct 10, 2018. Maybe we need to stop holding rallies in Florida??????

Now they know who to blame!
Amazing photo of the camper side laying there. Looks like it could be reattached. Maybe screws and glue instead of brads and the rv would have stayed together

Today I spoke with property manager, Chuck McIntosh, who called to let me know our Rally Feb 15-18th is a go. Yesterday they were able to open up 27 concrete sites. No wifi yet and the laundry facility was demolished along with the cabins. Clubhouse still operational. Incredibly no one killed, but not sure where “no serious injuries” came from as he reported several people with broken ribs/hip/shoulder, spleen injuries, and one couple where the guy was life flighted to Panama City with no feeling from the neck down (don’t know current condition) and wife just released from the hospital. The World Kitchen and Proctor & Gamble showed up to help. They need the income so come if you can.
