2026 Wolf Creek 850 truck camper review: Compact, yet comfortable

The 2026 Northwood Wolf Creek 850 is a hard-side, non-slide, wet-bath camper with room for four. However, my take is that it fits a couple best.

Behind the walls

Northwood builds the Wolf Creek 850 with a fully welded thick-wall aluminum frame, laminated fiberglass walls, and high-density block foam insulation. The front cap is fiberglass and shaped for a more aerodynamic nose. There isn’t a slide-out on the 850, which helps keep the design simple, stout, and easier to match with the right truck.Wolf Creek 850 truck camper image: northwood manufacturing

Interior and living space

The first thing I noticed inside is that the Wolf Creek 850 feels cozy—not flashy. I appreciate the interior color palette, faux-wood flooring, textured walls, and bright LED lighting. That combination gives the camper a classic, current feel.

There is an overhead bunk above the dinette, but, personally, I would opt to use it as storage instead of as a sleeping area.

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of my favorite parts of this camper. Northwood gives you a three-burner cooktop, oven, residential-style microwave with air fryer, stainless sink, and a faux solid-surface countertop with a backsplash.

I was happily surprised to see so much counter space in this compact kitchen. Then I discovered additional pull-out prep space, as well! Storage space is limited in the 850, as in many truck campers, but I think it’s workable.

Living/dining space

The living area centers around a practical L-shaped dinette, which is more spacious than I expected from a compact non-slide camper. (The dinette can convert into sleeping space when needed.)

Bath

Wolf Creek 850’s bath is a wet bath. (A disappointment for me.) Northwood uses a one-piece fiberglass shower, a porcelain foot-pedal toilet, a bath skylight, and an exhaust fan. Overall, the bathroom space looks well-proportioned and easy to use. While compact, the space is bright and functional.

Bedroom

Up front is the cabover sleeping area. Northwood provides a 58 x 80 TruRest Ultra quilted memory foam pillow-top mattress, which felt comfortable to me. You’ll also see reading lights, USB charging ports, 110-volt outlets, and a roof vent.

Each side of the bed has a storage cabinet, and there’s an additional “closet” at each end of the bed, as well. While there isn’t an actual nightstand, a CPAP user could possibly put the machine in the open shelf above the bed.

Overall take

The 2026 Wolf Creek 850 is not trying to be the biggest or the flashiest truck camper on the lot. Instead, it’s a tough, well-thought-out, non-slide, hard-side camper that keeps weight and complexity in check while still offering real comfort.

Caution

One caution stands out for the 2026 Wolf Creek 850. The weight of this truck camper makes it a better fit for a properly equipped three-quarter-ton truck or one-ton truck, rather than a half-ton pickup.

I’m sure that most truck owners will check this, but… I think the most sold trucks right now are 4 door with 6 foot beds. I’m guessing the better truck bed campers need an 8 foot bed for proper weight placement. It would be a service to readers to clearly state not just the weight capacity, but the truck bed size recommended by the camper manufacturer in the reviews.

When storage is at a premium, it really seems silly to have a conventional oven along with the micro/air fryer/convection. The latter will do everything needed, so it would seem that drawers would be FAR more useful than an oven under the cooktop, as shown in the photo.
