Cheers to repurposing six-pack containers

By Gail Marsh
When life gives you a six-pack, don’t just toss the container once the bottles or cans are gone! Those sturdy cardboard carriers have a ton of potential to be transformed into practical and fun creations.

Here are some clever ideas to repurpose six-pack cartons, whether you’re organizing, crafting, or just looking for a sustainable way to upcycle.

Prepping your six-pack container

Before repurposing, ensure your six-pack container is clean and sturdy. Wipe down any sticky spots and reinforce weak areas with tape if needed. Adding a protective coating like Mod Podge can help extend the life of your creation, especially if it’s exposed to moisture.

Turn your six-pack container into a portable picnic caddy for utensils, condiments, and napkins. Simply clean the carton, and insert your forks, cups, condiment bottles, and other essentials into the compartments. You can even decorate it with colorful paper or paint to make it picnic-perfect! This makes it easy to transfer everything from the RV kitchen to the outside picnic table.

Craft supply organizer

Keep your craft supplies together by using six-pack cartons to store supplies like markers, glue sticks, scissors, and paintbrushes. Each section can house a different type of item, making it easy to grab what you need. A little washi tape or fabric can turn the container into a charming craft carrier.

Herb garden starter

Use the compartments to hold small pots or directly plant seeds in biodegradable containers that fit snugly inside. This setup is perfect for starting an herb garden in your RV. Label each section for basil, parsley, mint, or whatever herbs you love most. You can easily move the herb six-pack container inside or outside, depending on the weather.

Desk organizer

Store pens, pencils, paper clips, and sticky notes in the compartments. For a more polished look, wrap the carton in decorative contact paper or fabric.

Art supply carrier

Keep the kids’ art supplies organized and portable. Fill the compartments with crayons, colored pencils, glue, and scissors. The handle makes it easy for kids to carry their supplies to any space inside or outside of the RV.

Tool tote

For smaller tools like screwdrivers or pliers, a six-pack carton can be a lightweight and easy-to-carry organizer. Toss in some gloves, and you’re ready to work on your RV.

TV buddy

Use the six-pack container to corral your TV remotes and programming guides. It will also hold paper and pencils just in case an advertised product catches your interest, and you want to note details.

Use the six-pack container to hold items for your trip to the beach. Sunglasses, sunscreen, towel grips, and snacks fit easily into the various sections.

Final thoughts

Six-pack cardboard cartons may seem disposable at first glance, but with a little creativity, they can have a second life as something both functional and fun. So, the next time you finish a six-pack, think twice before tossing the carton. Cheers! Here’s to repurposing the six-pack container.

I use the six pack containers to hold my plastic zip bags. I remove them from their box and leave them rolled. Place each size in a different compartment and cut the size and type of bag (freezer, sandwich, quart, gallon) from the original package and attach to the carrier where the coordinating type is placed. Sits upright in my cabinet and they remain all together for a quick grab.
