New Texas RV park offers affordable housing for local industry workers

A newly established RV park in Portland, Texas, just outside Corpus Christi, is providing residents with a much-needed affordable living option, particularly benefiting those employed by major industries in the area.

Alan Patton, the manager of Community RV Resorts, highlighted that about 80 to 85 percent of the residents are workers from local industrial giants like Cheniere Energy and ExxonMobil. “Portland’s growing infrastructure and the increasing demand for industrial labor were the main drivers behind the creation of this RV park,” Patton explained.

The park is designed to cater specifically to the needs of refinery and plant workers, offering long-term luxury RV spaces within close proximity to their workplaces. “We’re creating a community that serves the unique needs of the local workforce,” Patton added.

For residents like former Bechtel employee Albert Trevino, the park’s location is a significant advantage. “It’s a luxury to live just 10 minutes away from work, with minimal traffic,” Trevino said.

However, for others, like Elyssa Garcia, the decision to live in the RV park is rooted in financial necessity. “Portland is growing rapidly, but with that growth comes rising living costs,” Garcia noted. After struggling to afford a rental home, she found RV living to be a more sustainable option. “We realized that the loan for our trailer was only a fraction of what we were paying in rent,” Garcia shared.

As Community RV Resorts in Portland continues to develop, the question remains: Will more RV parks follow suit to meet the rising demand for affordable housing options?

Makes good sense to me. Sort of like privatized company housing.

Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Interesting. I wonder how many overall sites in the RV park? Whatever it is, the estimate is 15 percent may be available for “travelers” rather than the more permanent residents. Looks like about 39, 40 sites could be open for travelers across the 10 RV parks, so maybe 3 or 4 if they all have 26 or 27 total sites. Thanks again, have a great weekend, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂

Define “affordable.” Website shows no rates, just “contact us.”

A great concept, but it’s a trailer park, not an RV resort. It would have limited or no availability to traveling RVers.
