Cool RV Tools: DeWalt impact driver

By Dustin Simpson
Join Dave, Zach, and me as we share what we like to call “Cool RV Tools.” These are tools and gadgets that we actually use in the RV industry. We also believe they will be helpful to you when you need to make repairs while out on the road.

In today’s video, we’re looking at the DeWalt impact driver. So what exactly does it do?

The impact driver is used to drive screws, and it takes hex-shaped screw bits to do that. On the other hand, an impact wrench is used to tighten and loosen nuts, and it takes a square-shaped bit. These have a lot more torque for driving screws, so you have to be careful when using one on your RV.

We use these daily while working in our RV shop.

I wish people wouldn’t use them to lower and raise their stabilizers.

EXACTLY. A drill/driver on low speed offers a smooth turn to the stabilizer nut, but an impact driver literally makes thousand of high torque jerks. Great for tightening many screws or nuts, terrible for stabilizer screw drives.

These are good tools, should have mentioned that you can get adapters to use sockets on these as well as long or short bits to fit your needs.
