The Ferguson Fire continues to burn close to Yosemite National Park and the weather conditions have kept the Yosemite Valley filled with unhealthy levels of smoke, reports ABC30.com. That has led the National Park Service to announce that parts of Yosemite National Park will remain closed until Friday, August 3.
Though the fire is expanding, it only expanded by about 764 acres overnight and crews say they are making good progress slowing the spread of the fire and starving it of fuel. As of Friday night, the wildfire had burned more than 46,675 acres and is 29 percent contained.
Fire crews say they are making progress and have nearly completed indirect containment lines around the fire. That has allowed firefighters to shift to a more direct attack. Fire officials lifted the mandatory evacuation order for the Lushmeadows community on Friday night.
Nearly 3,900 people are fighting the fire and seven people have been injured. Cal Fire Dozer Operator, Braden Varney, died trying to contain the fire.
Road Closures:
Highway 41/Wawona Road is closed from the Yosemite Valley, through Wawona, to the park’s south gate.
Highway 140 is closed from 1.9 miles east of Midpines to the Cedar Lodge area.
Big Oak Flat Road is closed from the Highway 120 junction at Crane Flat to the Yosemite Valley.
