Need a BIG pickup truck to pull that oversize fifth wheel trailer? A Ford dealer bulletin has surfaced that warns the “Blue Oval” truck builder is shutting off supply of certain Super Duty trucks in California. It’s all centered on Golden State emissions issues. The Super Duty shutdown is Ford’s decision—not something that California cooked up.
Super Duty shutdown applies to all 19,500+ GVWR rigs
The dealer bulletin information comes from CarsDirect, as related by Ford Authority. It published a portion of the bulletin which reads this way: “2025MY diesel Super Duty chassis cab units above 19,500 gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) (i.e., F-600) cannot be sold or delivered to customers who register their vehicles in the state of California,” the bulletin reads. “This is in addition to the ongoing moratorium on sales and deliveries in California for diesel F-650/750.”
Ford supports California’s right to set emissions standards. “Supports” is a strong word, but Ford backed up their view recently. When the Truck and Engine Manufacturing Association (EMA) started lobbying against heavy-duty truck climate regulations last year, Ford didn’t see eye-to-eye with it. Ford pulled its membership from the industry group.
Shutdown hits RV conversion units

While not many F-650 and F-750 units are sold directly to non-commercial buyers, some are sold to upfitters for RV conversion purposes. Ford says such converted units “will have to be transported from the upfitter in these states to another state to be sold.”
The reason for Ford’s Super Duty shutdown decision? The dealer bulletin says, in part, “This decision will help Ford Motor Company meet greenhouse gas and criteria emissions standards, improve the overall environmental performance of our fleet and is in accordance with the Heavy-Duty Low NOx standards…”

So now Ford is going Woke?
Maybe, but I don’t think so. It appears to be a business move. California is gone over the top ridiculous (in my opinion-I’m a Californian) with their smog rules and electric vehicle mandates. In order for Ford to sell vehicles in CA, their fleet average fuel economy has to be within certain parameters which means the heavy duty, low fuel economy vehicles must be taken out of their average. CA wants us all to drive “clean” electric vehicles but the woke don’t have the common sense to realize that these vehicles are actually “remote emissions vehicles” with the pollution out of sight and out of mind.
Good point, Craig.
A very good point. Don’t try to push something as a cure all, when in fact, the substitute creates its own issues that have to be dealt with.
I fully support technology that improves our environment, but it has to be genuine improvement, not smoke and mirrors.
Let’s think about all of the ways this could go wrong for California and CARB states. Semi and long haul trucks? Just don’t register in a CARB state and pay less in sales taxes on new vehicles. Charge more for deliveries to CARB state businesses. Weather-related electric power shut downs so no charging? Super high electric costs ain’t going to get lower as more electricity is needed. California already estimates they’ve lost $100 billion in revenue as fed-up people and companies leave the state.
Refinery shutdowns that caused gas prices to spike will now be electric power generation system shutdowns.
Oh, and the new federal administration pulling their EPA-delegated authority.
Indeed. My state looks to cash in on out-of-state registrations and selling surplus power to the western woke states at peak rates. So glad I fled California a quarter century ago.
One Super C manufacturer was looking at the F600 chassis for a new model until they realized they could not sell it in several states after 2024. The F600 would give them a lot more OCCC but not no more.
Buy a big boy quick and take care of it.
Thank you, Russ and Tina! Have a great day and safe travels!
