“Oh, man! I didn’t know I was supposed to name it. Now I have that to worry about, too!” This statement came from a new RV owner. There are a lot of important things to figure out when you first begin the RV life. Coming up with a name for your RV isn’t at the top of too many RVers’ lists, but some of the names I found are certainly worth sharing. So, here goes—RV names for you to ponder or perhaps purloin for your own rig. Hey, one less thing to worry about, right?
Brand-connected RV names
Montana owner—“Joe”
Hathaway Edition—“Miss Jane” (from “The Beverly Hillbillies”)
Northpoint—“Dolly” (this rig features a large front kitchen)
Elkridge—“Ellie”
Jayco Swift—“Taylor”
Rockwood—“Roxy”
Cougar—“John Cougar Wannacamp”
Dutch Star—“The Dutchess”
Alpine—“Big Al”
Heartland Mallard—“Ducky”

“Seemore”—what our RV enables us to do
“Bessie”—she’s our Cabin On Wheels (COW)
“Weego”—here we go!
“Time machine”—we can move to a new place any time
“Mo”—we use it to see mo’ and do mo’
“Maga”—mobile and going around
Name just ‘fits’ our rig
“Rusty McGee”—for our old beater of an RV that still manages to take us places
“Road yacht”—we’re boaters turned RVers
“Rali”—retired and loving it (RALI)

“Mayhem”—something always goes wrong
“Turtleback” and “Myrtle”—she carries a home on her back
“Rattlecan”—it’s a canned ham pulled by a rattling old diesel
“Rosie”—because we can do it (like Rosie the Riveter)
“Tink”—because it’s so tiny
“Johnny”—because we have put so much “cash” into it
“Sir Cramalot”—named by a frustrated husband and the designated packer of the rig

Rambling Rose
Vince (for Vincent Van Go), my camper van.
Ours is named Freebird, since it gives us the sense of freedom being on the road
Our 1989 camper van is Wilbury, short for Traveling Wilbury Vol 2. Musical friends are glad to finally learn what happened to Vol 2 that year – it’s on the road again. And yes, we have 3 Van Gogh prints on the walls, which is what I say every time I put the key in the ignition of our fine old beast.
Mine is named DaZ. My son’s is Meshack.
As I began my RV chapter at age 67, I named my 14 foot Sportsmen “Epilogue”.
Magic Bus. A tribute to a friend’s VW Microbus that served us faithfully many years ago in the pursuit of frivolity and debauchery. The VW version was named for the then popular song by the Who. The legend must continue.
Naming our RV? Absolutely! We have named every RV since we started camping. Our current Lance Trailer is “ROVER V” and that is our licence plate. We even name our tow vehicles. But our most interesting car name is our Toyota Prius. One week after buying this new car with white faux-leather upholstery, My wife made a pot of Spaghetti to take to our daughter’s house.
I stupidly set it on the back seat…. Going down the Interstate a car cut in front of us and I had to swerve & slam on the brakes. You guessed it! the pot rolled over, all over the seat. Oh S*** After spending hours cleaning the seats & carpet, we appropriately named the car “LUIGI”
Mine is named Little Elsie. I’m not going to explain why but it is not because I worked for Borden; I did not.
I almost named it Beats Motel because it beats staying in a motel (yes, a convoluted reference to the creepy movie).
Our truck is named “Big Tow” (reference to the movie ‘Stripes’), and we call our camper “Wanda”. If you remember the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” you may remember the Towanda! scene. We tow Wanda!
“Tin Man” for obvious reasons. We’re the heart in him.
Bessie Bago. Every vehicle I’ve ever had was named Bessie something. Just keeping the tradition.
We christened our Thor Chateau “The Happy Ours” Chateau
Poppy Gasalot. Poppy because on one cross country trip we had a burnt valve and it was constantly “popping” and Gasalot for obvious reasons.
Our Grand Design Imagine is “Ima Jean”, of course!
The name of our travel trailer is “Cleta Jean”, in honor of my Grandmother (Cleta) and Mom (Jean), who both loved to travel. Our truck is named “Martin” in honor of my husband’s father. He lead the way and brought the family to the USA, and now the truck leads the way as we explore this amazing land!
I named my 2004/05 Chevy Lexor Pleasure-Way van motorhome “Paint. She is white with sage green trim, & I think she is flashy like a paint horse!
I have a 1970 Winnebago trailer, Wanda the wandering Winnebago. In spite of the name, she rarely leaves my backyard. Ah someday.
We named our Grand Design Solitude – Solley
Our granddaughter named our previous RV Fillmore, she was a fan of the movie, so the new rig is Fillmore II
Rita: Retirement is totally awesome!
We are so proud of our trailer name we put it on the license plate
TLRTRSH
(Trailer Trash for those of you who did see it right away)
We’ve had 4 fifth-wheel trailers over 35 years of RVing. The 2nd was an Alpenlite – later named old Al. The 3rd, which we still live in, an Alfa – big Al. The 4th, strictly for traveling and perfect for that purpose at 26 feet, is an Aljo named little Al.
Now we have a motorhome. The guys we bought it from took such excellent care of it. They had named her Priscilla, and we kept the name because Priscilla was pristine!
I briefly owned a 2018 Roadtrek SS Agile (can you say van life?). I called it “Foley” as in the SNL skit “Matt Foley Lives In a Van Down By The River”. Check it out on YouTube.
We named our 2018 Winnebago Vista “Winnie Pearl”.
B ‘n W
our initials. She gets top billing.
We have owned 5 campers from a pop-up to our newest 5er, a Grand Design Reflection. My wife loves bears and has decorated the inside of the camper with bears, all kinds of bear! We even advertise the name of our rig on 3 sides.
Unfortunately I cannot paste a copy of the picture of our rigs name here.
We named our travel trailer “Harvey” but say it out loud in pirate speak “Haarrrrvey” We came up with Harvey because every time we would do RV related searches on YouTube, our voice prompt for “RV” would result in “Harvey” displayed on the TV. After the 20th time, it became a running joke and eventually adopted “Harvey” name for our travel trailer.
We named ours Murphy. As in Murphy’s Law. Unfortunately, a VERY appropriate name. 5 years later, he’s perfect. Haha
“The Queen’s Barge”
Ark Royal was already taken…
We call ours The Green Hornet because it’s a1997 Damon Hornet
My brother named his 2018 Thor Hurricane “Edna” after Aunt Edna in the movie “ Vacation”. Edna was nothing but problems on his first cross country trip, just like the movie.
We named both our DP MHs simply “The Van”. That name comes from our 1st “RV”-a 1973 VW Camper Van.
Thank you, Emily! When my boss heard we bought our first RV she immediately asked me what we’d named it. So, I asked DW what she wanted to name it. Dw scoffed at the idea and said that it did not need a name. Fast-forward three or so years and DW began calling the RV “Reva the [American Coach] Revolution.” Ultimately, DW exclusively referred to the RV as Reva. Last summer we traded Reva for a Newmar New Aire, which she immediately named “Newton the New Aire,” but tends to shorten his name to just Newton. So, we first had “Reva” amd now have “Newton.”
I named my small-but-more-than- adequate Lance 1475 TT, “Sir Lancelot”.
“Engineers Dream” for two reasons. Before retiring, we were both engineers. But more importantly, this alludes to the constant need to debug, repair or work around problems – in a positive light.
We named ours ‘Silver Freedom’, as it’s a silver Transit that affords us the freedom to see the country!
I guess I am a stick in the mud. I don’t name things unless I intend to keep them until they die. We have a 34′ TT we call the RV, and we have a 21′ TT we call the camper. If it doesn’t have a name, I have little sentimental feelings when it makes sense to let go of ‘stuff’ be it sell, trade or abandon. My spouse, our kids, and our pets all have names. Good times & bad behaviors, they are ours until they die.
The Righteous Coach a 1968 Ultra Van, a Corvair powered, 22’ class A motorhome. It’s groovy baby!
We call ours Beasty because that’s what our grand kids call her because “it’s so big“.
My DIL calls the MH “Love Shack” to my disgust. Its proper name is “Rozinante,” named after a boat named after a horse.
My Lazy Daze is named Daisy for three reasons. The most obvious is a play on the brand name but there are two others; the daisy is one of my birth month flowers (April) and I wanted to be able to say, “I’m driving Miss Daisy”. BTW, my car is Sweet Pea, the alternate April flower.
“I have sought thee, sung thee, dreamed thee…”
Dulcinea
2018 RAM Promaster 136” wheelbase high roof custom built campervan.
We named ours Rigsby – after Eleanor Rigby the Beatles Song. Plus she’s a ‘rig’ so there ya go.
At one time we bought an old and still solid motorhome, but let’s say the exterior left something to be desired from wear and tear. We named it NCC-1701 after the Star Ship Enterprise that came into spacedock all beat up after the battle with Khan in the feature film “Wrath of Khan.”
We had 1 22′ Fleetwood Flair. On our first trip, we parked overnight in a highway rest area next to several large RVs (40′-45′). My wife looked at ours next to theirs and said “It looks so stubbie.” And therein was the name — Stubbie.
My Fleetwood Flair 25 is named “Hippo”. Short for hippocampus, keeps me learning new things and making memories ! In addition to being big & rounded. Hungry Hippo at the gas pump also applies ! And I do love seahorses !
We called our 5th wheel our POS (piece of sh!t). After much aggravation and way to much money we finally had enough, got rid of it, and probably will not get another RV. With what we hear about the quality of new RVs we do not want to go through that again
“Amazon” The rig purchase price is just the beginning.
Our 96 30’ Flair is named Maggie, after the Simpson’s character. Originally because she sucks gas, now after many upgrades, including a Banks system, we call her Maggie 2.0
My trailer is named “Braveheart”, because the last word William Wallace says in the movie is “FREEDOM!”.
Don’t lose your freedom because you won’t find it somewhere else.
We haven’t named our 5th wheel, just call it “the camper”. We did name our tow vehicle, a dually pick up, “Tommy” as in the 60’s song “Hang down your head Tom Dooley”. Years ago I had a 1/2 ton used mainly for hunting and call it “Surely”. Surely you’ll get me home, surely you wont’ get stuck today, surely you’ll start.
Cost-a-Plenty
Class c motorhome 22 foot long named “Wanda”, because I tend to wander.
Keystone Springdale is Dale, and the truck is Chip
My Born Free is Simba.
Purchased in Louisiana at Dixie RV (before Camping World) so named her “Dixie”.
Our 2015 GMC 2500 Denali Sierra diesel truck is named “BERT” for “Big Expensive Red Truck”. So of course our 19’ travel trailer is named “Ernie”. Ernie does not go anywhere without Bert.
Son of Papa,s Hideaway. Dad had Papa,s Hideaway. I sure do miss camping with my sisters and mom and dad. I still love camping in our reliable 1989 Kit Road Ranger. When will the industry start building them like this again? Come on RV Companies, everything is still working in this rig. The only things we have replaced are the new curtains my wife made and the shackles that had almost worn through from all the traveling. Three sets of tires and one brake kit. Come 2024 we will take one last trip from Front Royal Va. to Spokane and see my sister, her kids, and their kids. Sad to say but this will probably be our last big trip. I truly loved all those adventures.
There was Homer, than Big Homer, a big TT that we never towed was the Condo, a truck camper was named Big Tiny and a small TT that will hatch in a few months. Name is still in discussion to be towed by Puller.
Our pewter and red Retro is called “Little Red” because I thought “Little Red Cabin in the Woods” was a big lengthy. It is named in honor of the previous red cabin that my folks built in the woods not too far from our home. Now, my woods may be high mountains, the desert, or something in between. We have more amenities than that cabin did too, even in a 17′ TT.
We named our Grand Design Imagine “Ashrei” from Psalm 145, translated “Happy.” We’ve been happy with her; but mostly because we have been happy in her. We are grateful for Ashrei and we are grateful that the Lord has blessed us so extravagantly. Imagine that!
Amen.
We named our Lance travel trailer Second Last. That’s because when we bought our first Lance in 2016, since it’s little pricier trailer, we said it would be our last one we purchase. Six years later we are traveling in our Second Last….Lance!
We have owned 2 Lance trailers- our first was a 2020, model 1985 Lancey Pants (fancy pants) our 2nd one 2022, model 2445 is Miles (put alot of miles on it etc) had some issues… Lance has been awesome, so 2024, model 2445 Miles the second (Miles II) or Miles Jr is coming soon. 😉
Because I spend a lot of time with the RV my wife has named it The Other Woman.
Short version of your name is T.O.W 😉
We have a Holiday Rambler we named “Carolina” and our toad Is “Cali.” As in Heads Carolina, tails California! Our favorite travel song.
Our Tiffin Wayfarer is silver and gray and very boxy looking. We named it “The Toaster” because it looks like one going down the road.
Our Newmar Ventana is our “ Recreational Command Vehicle!”
My 2018 Promaster PleasureWay Lexor is a white class B van – “Beluga” – a little white whale
We named our 2019 Winnebago Spirit 26A “Gracie”, because the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God is God’s grace.
Your comment made my day! Thank you, Mark.
CHAMBLU (same on AZ license plate) because our 43’ Newmar Ventana is Champagne & Blue and at that size maybe related to Chamu the Killer Whale at Sea World. Our Blue Jeep toad is Blue J – J for Jeep but we put Blue Jay bird decals on the back window and have a cute cuddly stuffed Blue Jay bird inside.
TITANIC! Haven’t hit an iceberg yet!
😲😉
My wife said our RV is our baby and we should name it Baby. I said I can’t sit around the campfire with the other guys and admit that; I proposed Killer. She didn’t like that, so I said maybe Baby Killer would be a compromise. Also vetoed. We settled on Spanish for baby: Nena and so our 26 foot Winnebago has been for 7 years.
🤣 Funny story! Thanks, Michael. Have a good afternoon. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
An old canned ham: Bessie June.
We named ours “Lay-Away.” The Layman’s are Away.
We call our 5th wheel, the Puma Pit, lovingly, it is a Puma. But just the other day I saw someone with a TT, called Elizabeth Trailer. I loved that name. Hahaha
Pea Pod, our tight little home built teardrop – and Ginger our reconfigured used 22 footer with blond woodwork. It was fun when we registered our truck, our license plate starts with PE … it wasn’t planned.
“Happy Box”.

Good one! Thanks, John. Enjoy your Happy Box! 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
We call our Flagstaff 5er The Moose. Wife has a FB page called the Adventures of The Traveling Moose…
Since we use ours for dog shows and everything related to dogs or K9s were taken for a custom license plate we picked CHENIL which in French translates to kennel.
Our is the Rolling Dog House. It took forever to come up with a name. One day in conversation I told hubby in a conversation about our four dogs that this is just a rolling dog house. As soon as I said it knew that was the name I was looking for.
