Heartland recall involves hot circuit boards

In a seeming carbon copy of a recall notice we posted earlier this week, a Heartland recall involves hot circuit boards. Heartland Recreational Vehicles, LLC (Heartland) is recalling certain 2023 Elk Ridge, Lithium, 2024 Eddie Bauer, Corterra, 2023-2024 Big Country, Big Horn, South Fork, Fuel, Gravity, Mallard, North Trail, Sundance, Milestone, Pioneer, Prowler, Torque, and Trail Runner fifth wheels and travel trailers. The LED backlight circuit board in the Suburban cooktop range may fail, causing the board to overheat. A circuit board that overheats increases the risk of a fire. 10,038 RVs are potentially affected.

Remedy

Dealers will disconnect and cut the circuit powering the LED backlights and terminate the wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 17, 2024. Owners may contact Heartland customer service at 1-877-262-8032.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Additional information of interest

Heartland’s report to the NHTSA said they had received 11 claims from RVers with this problem, all received from October 13, 2023, to February 16, 2024. However, it wasn’t until March 22, 2024, when Suburban itself notified Heartland of its own recall that it started an official investigation. Heartland determined it should issue its recall four days later. Fortunately, none of the 11 claims for this issue led to death or injury.

HOLD ON!!! People bought an RV with a feature…a backlight feature on their range…and the “fix” is to just cut the wires and disable the paid-for feature??? Is this just Phase 1 until new boards are available that don’t cause a fire or is this the permanent “fix?”

Hi, Mikal. That’s what is listed for the “Remedy” on the NHTSA website. Very similar to the “Remedy” regarding the recent Keystone recall for the same issue: “Dealers can remove the LED backlights or terminate the circuit for the red LED lights, free of charge.” Neither one says anything about a “fix” beyond that.🤔 Have a good afternoon/evening. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Why aren’t the displays being replaced? They paid for a working display.

Is there a list of Suburban Cook top models that are affected by this recall?
