If you have a Portable Buddy or Big Buddy propane heater, you should know about this accessory made for them. It’s a four-blade, heat-powered fan that clips onto the heater instantly without using any tools. The heat from the portable propane heater powers the fan that helps distribute the warm air.
I love my Portable Buddy heater when boondocking, but the heat-powered fan takes its functionality to a new level. I added this accessory before heading out for six weeks of boondocking in Quartzsite this year. It’s already cut my propane use. I would normally have the heater on high to quickly warm my travel trailer in the mornings, but with the heat-powered fan the low setting gets the job done in the same time.
I cannot overstate how well it works. I have cut my propane consumption nearly in half. I also don’t need to run the heater nearly as long as I used to.
What I especially like about the heat-powered fan
- Needs no power, only heat.
- Works silently.
- Quickly distributes the warm air to raise the temperature of the space more quickly.
- Quick and easy to install without any tools.
- Reduces fuel consumption.
- Squeezes every last bit of heat out of your heater, meaning even after you turn the heater off, the fan keeps spinning until everything has cooled down. If there is warmth coming off the heater, you will benefit from it.
- A versatile heat solution, the fan also works with wood stoves, coal stoves, gas fireplaces, pellet stoves, and multi-fuel stoves.
What can be improved
There is no guard of any kind around the blades, so you will need to be careful not to run into them or put fingers where they shouldn’t be.
Also, use extreme caution around kids and animals (which you should be doing anyway when using this type of portable propane heater).
You can learn more or order the fan here.

This item is unavailable on Amazon.
There are two other models shown as available, but they seem to be smaller. ☹️
Sorry, Chris and Ron. When I proofed that post two days ago there were still fans in stock. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
And hopefully will be again, seems like a good idea for the Buddy heaters! Have a “warm” night, Diane 😊
Hi, Chris. Either that or maybe just buy a different brand? Sounds like a good idea, no matter who makes it. Have a good evening/night. 😀 –Diane
It’s a great idea, so much so they must have recently sold out. I am sure another brand, providing it just clips on like this, will work just as well. But it does work amazingly well. Not sure how I ever lived without it! 🙂
Thank you for the recommendation, Cheri! Amazon appears to have none right now, but perhaps we can secure one soon. Have a great week and safe travels! 🙂
Sorry, Neal. When I proofed that post two days ago they did have the fans in stock. Hopefully they’ll get them back in stock, or maybe just buy a similar fan.🤔 Have a great day. 😀 –Diane
No problem, Diane! 🙂 The world is fluid 🙂 and you’re really good! 🙂 Have a great week of walks! 🙂
Thanks, Neal. I had a great walk this morning. A little foggy and misty, or, as I told my friend, “We got mistified” on our walk. Take care. 😀 –Diane
Very welcome, Diane! Cool. That must be a pleasant circumstance for a walk. 🙂 Will do!
I have the fan that I use on my wood stove and it is just like that. I just took a metal coat hanger and made a bracket for my Mr Buddy to set the fan on. It has worked for years. It really moves the heat!
Wish they made one for a Camco Wave heater. Unfortunately we leave in two days for 3 months down south or I would have gambled on purchasing one and building a fan mount.
