Police shocked by 11-year-old RV thief

Police in Britain’s North Yorkshire got a bit of a shock when they got their man. Last week reports came in regarding a stolen travel trailer, towed by a BMW. It wasn’t too difficult to locate. But when pulled over, surprise! They got themselves an 11-year-old RV thief.

Help with the heist?

Did the pre-teen have help with the heist? You put the evidence together. Not only did the towing rig have “cloned” plates, there were several other stolen plates found inside. And the youthful crook was also found to have other car theft tools.

Sergeant Paul Cording tweeted a photo of the stolen trailer, saying, “Even after over 23 years’ service, you come across things that you struggle to comprehend. Like yesterday when some great fast track work from the team identified a recently stolen caravan being towed by a vehicle on false plates, but then to find the driver was only 11 years old!”

11-year-old RV thief “just hitched it up and drove away”

It took police a brief 45 minutes from the theft report to find and stop the rig. The “caravan’s” owner, Janine Forth, said she had driven up to the RV park near Thirsk, just in time for a memorable sight. She reported she got there, “just as they had hitched it up and were driving away with it.” Police found the carried-off caravan on the A1 motorway. The A1 is a major route between London and the northern area of the country.

Booked, and later released, the unnamed youthful crook is up on charges of theft, burglary, “going equipped for theft,” and—can you believe it—dangerous driving.

Years ago there was a program called “Scared straight”. Before he thinks this is ok he needs a dose of what prison life is like as presented by long time inmates or lifers.

Agree, and I remember the program. It needs to be brought back.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 That is quite a remarkable tale!?! Where did his parents think he was? 🙁 I am glad that he was caught so quickly, but I wonder what sort of sentence he’ll receive? Safe travels! 🙂
