Many pet owners allow their pets to sleep in bed with them at night. Come on, you know it’s hard to turn down that begging face!
Is sleeping with your pets a good thing? A bad thing? Is it healthy? If you missed the article on this topic from the RV Pet Vet, Karel Carnohan, DVM, read it here. In it, she explains the benefits and risks of sleeping with a pet.
If you let more than one pet sleep with you, please leave a comment after you vote and tell us how many. We’re curious. (Do you blame us?) Thanks!

One very Senior cat, who’s asleep in my lap now.
Our two Labs get two hours in our bed with my wife while she watches a couple of her TV shows at night. When I come to bed, the dogs jump down on their own and get into their own dog beds.
Sometimes, when there’s a thunderstorm or other ‘scary’ noise.
Unfortunately we have one of the two cats that likes to sleep between us. Hard to roll over without trying to move him. Occasionally the other cat will try and get on the bed and the current occupant will Hiss & Spit. During the day they both peacefully sleep together on the bed. Typical cat behavior.
We have always slept in our bed and the dog(s) in a bed of their own, and find that everyone gets a good night’s sleep that way.
Yup! Two beagles snuggled up in the bed under their blanket. It’s been 50 years with dogs on the bed. Cat has never been on or in the bed and the dogs won’t let it happen.
We have always had a cat in our lives. They are the perfect companion. Intelligent, kind, loving and fun. They have almost always slept with us. Chelsea, our purebred Sealpoint Siamese sleeps with us. She always sleeps between my legs. Funny how we adapt to that but I do. In fact on the occasions that she may not come to bed I do not sleep as well.
Love our cat.
I looked up your cat breed. Interesting history. We are cat lovers but haven’t had one in years, mainly because once we retired and started RVing a lot more, we couldn’t figure out how to keep a cat cool when we were out hiking or ATV’ing (while boondocking). We miss our cats . . .
My DW’s cat sleeps on her side of the bed; the family GSD’s sleep on their dog beds in the winter or the tile floors during the summers.
We have had small breed dogs for 40+ years, and with very rare exceptions they have always slept in their designated spaces. Our current senior dog has been incapable of getting onto the bed, or other furniture for the past couple of years.
The cat on the other hand, sleeps wherever he dang well pleases.
The dog gets a little cuddle time before lights out, but does not sleep with us. Our 2 cats come and go through the night and generally stay at the foot of the bed.
My daughter had a cat that used to curl up on her face at night.
Yes, have one small dog that sleeps in bed with us at night. Had another small dog that we had to put to sleep last Oct who also slept with us, we miss her dearly!!
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Sometimes because as dog #2 neared the end of his life he acquired separation anxiety, which worsened over time. During that phase, we placed a sheet over the bedspread and I lifted him onto the bed to sleep and in the morning lifted him from the bed. Otherwise, no, no pets sleep in our bed. They have a bed at the foot of ours and sleep there. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
No way, that’s just nasty. It’s an animal, not a human. They have germs and lick their butts! Another reason why we avoid pot lucks!
Didn’t we just have this survey a week or two ago?
Nope. But it was run a year ago. We’ve had other pet-related polls more recently. It may have been linked in a recent newsletter as a previous poll, but I can’t remember for sure. (I’m thinking that might be why we both thought it had been run recently.) When Emily put this one in here I thought for sure we had just run it, also. But it’s been a year. Have a good afternoon/evening, Diane. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
I think my boy is cheating on me!
Who is that orange-haired floozy that he is snuggled up to?
Our little dogs yes, our Great Dane NO
Don’t have a pet – don’t want a pet. My observation is that too many people treat their pet like people. They’re pets!!
They aren’t like people, they’re better than people. Sadly, you will never know.
I said that THIS dog WILL BE trained to stay off the furniture!!!!!! Shortly after getting her, I was confined to the sofa because of some surgery I was recuperating from. In the meantime, SOMEONE allowed the dog in the bed. I may sleep on the sofa the rest of my life. A 12 pound dog now runs our house.
We have four dogs living full time (moving). Only two sleep in the bed. The other two prefer to sleep in their own beds on the floor.
