The video below gives us a tour of the sixth DIY camper creation built by our host at Endgame Campers. Many of their campers are, in fact, fashioned from wood, giving them distinctive looks. This truck camper is even more unusual in that it upcycles wooden fence pickets for that wood!
Our host claims that after five previous versions, he has now built “the perfect camper.”
Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder, but this DIY camper is impressive by anyone’s standards.
The humble fence pickets he used to construct it are pure cedar and available at almost any home store. He chose cedar because it is lightweight, resistant to the elements (including insects) and it is beautiful. He coated the exterior surface in a material made to protect log cabins.
The portion of the camper that slides into the truck bed, the foundation, was fashioned from a composite of plywood and foam board insulation.
Good design dominates throughout this DIY camper, including its unique but aerodynamic profile.
The inside aesthetics feel like a cozy cabin in the woods. The innovative design here continues with an L-shaped sofa that doubles as a bed and a pull-out table for dining or working. Wooden window covers provide greater insulation or can open to let in the outdoors.
The camper’s 5000 BTU air conditioner can run off the battery for off-grid camping, while 400 watts of rooftop solar keep everything charged.
The video concludes with a demonstration of how this amazing DIY camper attaches to the pickup truck. Amazingly, the camper only weighs about 750 pounds, dry.

Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Well, it certainly is beautiful! I rewatched the video to make sure I did not miss his discussion of water, tank volumes, commode, or shower. However, they were absent. I wonder if he travels so remotely that he digs a latrine when he needs to go potty? I guess sponge baths with face wipes could reduce (eliminate?) the need of a shower. I did see the sink, so I think that he can carry water. The omissions from the video raised questions in my mind, but it certainly is impressive. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
Even using cedar, 750 lbs, dry still seems very light.
