Many people and families have a rule: “No shoes inside the house (or RV)!” And, if you’re not that person or family, you certainly know someone who is.
Do you wear your regular, outside shoes in your RV? Or do you take them off as soon as you get to the door? Maybe you have “inside” shoes or slippers that you wear inside (never outside)?
Do you only take your outside shoes off if you’ve been in especially dirty, muddy areas?
You know the drill: After you vote, feel free to leave a comment. Thanks!
Psst: Like the doormat in the photo above? You can find that doormat and several others here.

It is CAMPING. A little dirt coming in can be handled by a broom and dustpan. Or use a cordless vacuum. Wipe your shoes off on the outside door mat to reduce the most of the dirt.
We have a mat at the bottom of the steps and another just inside.
We can spend 3-4 months in Sandy Florida without resorting to sweeping or vacuuming sand by simply not wearing our outside shoes in the RV. Returning home we’ll get very little sand, grass, and dirt in the dustpan.
Regardless if in the motorhome or at home inside, I prefer to be in my bare feet or stocking feet inside. Comfortable is the way to go
We come in and out through the garage door, so shoes stay in there coming in and to put on when leaving. I change at the door into the living area to something that is largely indoor use. Largely, becuase I often forget to change and then wear my indoor shoes outside. Oh well….
You got the yes-but response and missed having a no-but response.
Under normal circumstances I switch between outdoor shoes and slippers at the door. The exception is if I am running in briefly and out multiple times to address an issue.
We take our shoes off at the door when in the RV, at home, or when visiting someone else’s home.
It’s a habit formed many years ago as a child. Shoes stayed in the back hall. Only Sunday or special occasions were dress shoes allowed in the house. Some rules still apply this many years later!
Likewise Steven
I change them as soon as I get in the door, I don’t leave them outside for something to crawl into them. I do clean them off before entering the RV.
Life is short – we have a Eufy vacuum cleaner in the camper.
House or coach, our shoes get dropped at the door. My wife is from Thailand, so it was a natural habit for her.
In Teva sandels, so limited need for shoes. If wet, I have Crocs. But, I do travel with shoes, if needed.
Only when packing or unpacking otherwise shoes off at the door
Thank you for the question, RV Travel. In the absence of dog #3 and his many strands of shed hair, the inside of RV #2 would be a shoe-free zone, but that is not the case. Consequently, I wear my shoes inside the rig, or go barefoot. Have a great day and safe travels!
We wear sneakers that tie and are in and out constantly, so taking them on and off is way too much of a bother! Once we are in for the night, they come off, but not before then. We have a good scrapper mat as well as ones on the steps, and I just sweep the rest out the door!
My real answer is ‘sometimes’. I usually wear sandals at the campsite while indoor or out. I usually drive with “tennis shoes” which I also wear outside while in transit.
I removed the carpet and put in vinyl plank flooring. I also installed a VacPan that makes cleanup a snap!
