RIO Hammock camping rocking chair is perfect for campsite

My favorite new summer RVing accessory, the RIO Hammock camping chair, brings comfort to outdoor camp seating. It’s not that my old camp chair was uncomfortable, but my RIO Hammock camping chair is more so. Plus, it’s a rocking chair, and I have always loved rocking chairs. When I saw that, I was sold!

No, you won’t find rockers on the bottom of the chair.  Instead, the seat hangs suspended on the frame, like a butt-sized hammock!

The seat is versatile, too. It’s comfortable when seated upright for conversation around the campfire. But it’s also comfortable to use to lean back in and watch the stars.

What I especially like about the RIO hammock camping chair

Besides the fact that I get to have a rocking chair in camp (did I mention I LOVE rocking chairs?), here are more features that I like about the RIO hammock camping chair:

  • Sets up and folds away in seconds.
  • Comes with its own handy carrying bag.
  • Has a built-in cup holder.
  • Has a built-in foam pillow headrest, especially nice for stargazing.
  • Seat rests on a rust-resistant powder-coated folding steel frame.
  • The seat is made from durable polyester with a textured mesh center.
  • Weighs 11.24 pounds.
  • Holds up to 300 pounds.

What can be improved?

It took me a minute to get used to the chair, but once I did, I fell in love with it. So I have no complaints. It’s my favorite camp chair to this point in my life!

Costco sells the chair for much less than Amazon. Looks great but I have sooo…many chairs already.

I mentioned in the article that Costco has the chair, that’s where I got mine.

I looked at the photos on Amazon but didn’t see how small the chair is when folded down. Can you comment on this – don’t need absolute dimensions but curious how packable it is. Thanks!

Hi, Warren. Looking at the dimensions of the chair when set up, 42x32x37, it seems like it would fit into a generic replacement bag for a similar chair (also on that page on Amazon), which measures 43x9x9. Also, on the Costco page for this product, there is a video of the chair in the bag, and the chair (quickly) being set up. That might give you a better idea of the size. Sure looks comfy! Have a good afternoon. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Thanks, Diane! After I first looked at it on the Amazon link and posted my comment I looked on the Costco site. While there were no dimensions given for it closed, it did show people carrying it in the bag, which was helpful.

You’re welcome, Warren. I looked all over (RIO, Costco, Amazon, ShelterLogic, etc.) and couldn’t find the size when closed. But I thought maybe that replacement bag would be a clue. Take care. 😀 -Diane

Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Looks like a great “chair” and you endorse it. But, DW found a folding rocking chair that I have used seven years and counting with no problem (https://a.co/d/0cJGebd). She even bought one for herself 4 or 5 years ago. Should either break, then I’ll look for this. I think that the similarity to a hammock will especially appeal to DW. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂

Camping World used to sell these and still may BUT NO cup holder!!
THis makes all of the difference in my world! I use my RIO chair with a bench or ice chest for my footrest and it becomes the perfect “hammock” experience in a smaller bag!
