Today’s RV review is of the 2026 Highland Ridge Open Range 3X 393TBR fifth wheel. You might know that I recently attended RV Open House in Elkhart, Indiana, where the RV companies show off their newest, latest and greatest. When I reached out to Kristy Brown, the Open Range brand manager, she hustled me right over to this model.
The Open Range 3X 393TBR is truly an unusual fifth wheel, with the signature item being two bedrooms in the back along with two bathrooms and a very nice main living space. There’s also a baby jail, er, loft above one of the bedrooms.
This RV is warranted for full-time living. It could be a great choice for families on the road, as each of the two back bedrooms has a couch that converts to a bed as well as a desk. Let’s get into what I found.
Start at the road with the Highland Ridge Open Range 3X 393TBR
This two-axle trailer rides on a simple leaf spring suspension but with the MORryde AllTrek 4000™ suspension dampening system. The tires on this are Rainier ST radial, which I hadn’t heard of until I did a search on the ol’ Interwebs. These are sourced from an RV tire supply company and are made by our friends in the Far East, if that matters to you.
All the slides in this RV are cable slides. I believe they’re Accu-Slide™ models, which means don’t you go in there with the slide room in.
Something I liked was that the levelers on this rig used the JT’s Strong Arm™ stabilizing system. Many, many fifth wheel owners that I know have put this on their own rigs. I can imagine that if you had the 10 people sleeping in here that it’s capable of, and many of those humans are of the teenage variety, there’d be every reason in the world to want to minimize the amount of motion they generated. This is an unexpected and nice upgrade.
The walls on this are vacuum-bonded, which is a very good thing. They are 2.635” thick, which is thicker than most.
Another thing I liked was the frameless windows with integrated shades and screens. These windows tend to need less maintenance. The construction of them integrates screens and shades. They look very clean and modern from both the inside and out.
Bring the kids
The first place I started in this rig was in the back. There’s a bathroom that spans the width of this trailer all the way at the back, ostensibly for use by the occupants of those two bedrooms back there. There are two sliding doors here—one for each bedroom—to access the bathroom. There’s also an entry door from the outside into this space.
Inside the very back bathroom is a tub/shower, porcelain toilet and sink, along with a bit of storage. There are a number of things that really make this a great family friendly fifth wheel, including this bathroom, but also those two bedrooms.
The bedrooms run parallel to the length of the trailer with each one having the benefit of a slide room to make the 8’ 6” width of this RV even greater.
On the camp side, the bedroom features a sofa that folds into a bed along with a wardrobe and drawers plus a desk that faces the center wall. There are household and USB power outlets and hookups for a TV.
The road-side bedroom has the same features plus a drop-down bunk over the couch.
A rig like this would truly give two opportunities for someone to do homework or just goof around on the internet.
Above the camp-side bedroom accessible from the living room is a loft with a thin mattress and bars. This could be storage, or a place for a younger member of the family to reside. Give that littlest one a Nerf gun and now they’re going to defend their space until the last Nerf bullet ends up in the casserole—at which point they will get double dog dare you time out.
Main living space
The RV industry must have been looking at news coverage of homes in the Middle East, where huge sofas reign supreme. This has four theater seats on the camp side, with two large armrests between them. There are also tables that can be used in this space.
There’s also an island in the middle of the space with four barstools around it. Highland Ridge calls this a waterfall table, but I didn’t see any water. It’s funny how stuff gets names. OK. It’s because the top material on the table extends down the side, kinda like waterfall.
Kitchen in the Highland Ridge Open Range 3X 393TBR
This was a first-rate kitchen by any stretch. There’s a truly residential-style stove and oven. The model I saw had the residential refrigerator, although a 12-volt model is also available. The sink is on the bulkhead of the space and there is plenty of counter space, especially if you also use that waterfall table… unless there’s a waterfall or something.
The back of the whole space has a large TV on the wall. However, through the magic of hidden spaces, there’s a very large pantry in the space behind the TV.
I’ve seen lots of RVs where there is a provision for plenty of people to sleep, but the kitchen just won’t cut the mustard. Here, the mustard has been sliced. But wait, there’s more.
There is also a flat-top griddle in the front storage bay along with a small refrigerator.
Upstairs in the Highland Ridge Open Range 3X 393TBR
The bedroom in here features a slide room with a 72” X 78” bed. That bed has a power lift mechanism for the head of the bed. On either side of the bed are flip-up mini tables. There is a storage cabinet above the bed, as well.
The entire nose of this rig is also storage, since the bed’s in a slide. And there is, of course, washer-dryer prep in this closet space.
There’s also a dresser which has a little hidden slide-open top on it to hide your pirate treasure maps or whatever you’ve got that’s smaller.
The bathroom is quite spacious up here, with a door to the bedroom and also one to the hallway. The corner shower is big enough at 36” x 36”, and offers a flip-down seat and unique corner glass shower door.

Final thoughts on the Highland Ridge Open Range 3X 393TBR
I can see a number of groups for whom this would really work well. Of course, the obvious one is a family where the wee ones can get their homework done in the two bedrooms in the back and just have a place to go spend time.
But this could also be a good rig if you have work that needs to be done and you use one or both of these bedrooms as an office.
I can see why Kristy was excited about this floor plan—there is a lot that makes sense about it.
