Yosemite announces new campsite release dates

RVers, don’t miss this: Yosemite National Park has finally announced new release dates for several of its most sought-after summer campgrounds after last month’s reservation delay.

If you’re hoping to roll into Wawona, Hodgdon Meadow, or sites 1–124 in Upper Pines, here’s when you’ll want to be glued to Recreation.gov to snag those Yosemite summer campground reservations:

• For arrivals June 15–July 14:
Reservations open Monday, March 24, 7 a.m. PDT

• For arrivals July 15–August 14:
Reservations open Monday, March 31, 7 a.m. PDT

Be ready—the demand is fierce

And yes—just like always—expect the feeding frenzy. Yosemite summer campsite bookings vanish faster than a donut at an RV rally, especially for RV-friendly loops and longer rigs. Don’t count on leisurely browsing. Be logged in early and ready to pounce.

What the delay affected and what’s back on track

The reservation delay that spooked a lot of trip planners last month affected about a month’s worth of bookings across five major campgrounds. Included were Upper Pines, Lower Pines, North Pines, Wawona, and Hodgdon Meadow. Now the park says three of those are officially back on track. The remaining campgrounds will get their release dates once staffing and operations fall into place.

Existing reservations and potential new openings

Park officials stress that any existing reservations are still good, and more sites may open later in the season. If they do, Yosemite promises at least seven days’ notice on its website and social channels—worth keeping an eye on if you like a backup plan.

Bottom line for RVers

If Yosemite’s on your summer route, set those alarms now. These reservations are some of the hardest to score anywhere in the national park system, and the early birds are the ones who end up parking under those towering pines.

They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.

If we were to try for a Yosemite RV camping reservation, how do we go about it when the time comes?
