We recently looked at the brand-new Brinkley Model Ix 23x, and today we’re looking at another new model.
This 23-foot Brinkley Model Ix 20x is about as attractive and smartly designed as any 1/2-ton towable travel trailer we have seen recently. It’s Brinkley’s smallest unit, and it is really put together well.
Josh the RV Nerd from Bish’s RV takes you through this small RV, explaining everything and showing you everything. Josh says the Murphy bed may be the best-designed one he has seen, and watching him open and close it with ease might impress you, as well.
The interior color scheme is bright and modern, and there are cupboards and drawers everywhere. This would be a great little trailer for a couple who wanted all the comforts but did not want to tow a behemoth.
The article below is based on Josh’s comments as he shows you the trailer. You can skip the article and go right to the bottom of this article for the video, which will give you a far better idea of what this trailer is all about.
OK. Here are highlights from what Josh explains in the video:
The new Model Ix 20x brings premium touches to a compact RV that most half-tons can manage. It keeps the feel of the full Model I series, trims weight and length, and sticks with a proven couple’s layout that works. Below is a fast tour of what stands out, what to expect on the road, and how it all comes together.
Why the Model Ix 20x hits the sweet spot
The Ix 20x measures 23 feet 11 inches, sits 10 feet 5 inches high, and stays easy to tow. The GVWR caps at 7,395 lbs., so many half-tons are in play. It is lighter and more affordable than the full Model I, yet it keeps a lot of the good stuff.
- Hitch: 525 lbs.
- Empty: 5,583 lbs.
- Cargo: 1,812 lbs.

Core specs at a glance
| Length | Height | Width | Awning | Fresh | Gray | Black | Solar |

Stepping inside: Light, bright, flexible
The decor is intentionally light and bright to open up the small space. Add pillows or a throw, and it warms up fast.
Flexible seating without sacrifice
Choose a buckskin leatherette theater seat or the cloth trifold sleeper sofa shown. The hideaway dining desk turns the curbside counter into what you need:
- Open kitchen for prep
- Desk mode for one
- Dining for two with foldaway chairs
The star feature: A better Murphy bed
This new Murphy setup feels thoughtfully engineered. A foot switch release and strut assist make it smooth. The mattress is not a hinged fold, so swapping it or adding a topper is easy. Length is 78 inches, which is longer than a camp queen, slightly shorter than residential. The fixed headboard keeps pillows in place and includes power pockets and USB.
Potential tradeoffs: a slight crease risk from bending the mattress, and a floor heat vent nearby, though it sits out of the main path. Want a fixed walk-around bed instead? See the Model Ix 23x.

Living area comforts and views
Eye-level windows flood the camp side with light for relaxed campsite viewing. The TV pivots toward the sofa and bed. Brinkley includes a rugged portable Bluetooth speaker with a small wall mount. Power is 30 amp with a single 18,000 BTU Furrion Chill Cube A/C that sips power and can run on 15-amp household service.
Storage that makes sense
- Under-sofa storage drawers are accessible even with the bed down
- Slide pantry with outlets, dovetail drawers, soft-close doors, magnet catches
- Foldaway chair storage in wardrobes, plus a generous pass-through
- Smart touches like bumpers at contact points and a drawer-in-drawer paper towel station
Kitchen built for daily use
A 10.7 cu. ft. 12V compressor fridge keeps its cool in the heat. The sealed 3-burner cooktop cleans easily, paired with a residential-sized convection oven. Thermofoil countertops come standard here, while the full Model I gets solid surface. It is dishwasher prepped under the sink, with outlets ready to go, and includes toe kicks, utensil drawers, larger vent fan, and a vented microwave hood.
Bathroom basics done right
A fiberglass molded shower, porcelain toilet, and real storage make it comfortable. The skylight helps tall users. Heat stays out of the floor here. Linen space sits by the tankless water heater control.
Road mode: What stays usable
With the slide closed, the kitchen, bath, and desk or dining remain accessible. The bed is not, since the sofa blocks the rollover. That saves about three feet compared to layouts like the 23X and trims weight and cost.
Exterior build and towing perks
The body uses painted aluminum skin over laminated walls with Azdel for better long-term weather resistance. Hankook radials, Road Armor™ suspension, a heated enclosed underbelly, and a slim-rack slide deliver a confident tow. Extras include fusion awning lighting, a side ladder to avoid the bathroom skylight, 200 W solar, a receiver hitch, a gas quick connect, and a clean docking center with brass fittings and no flex hose shortcuts.
Considering bigger models too?
Those who want more space or features can jump up to the full Model I family:
