Looking for a festive way to kick off the holiday season? Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve invites you to a delightful Prairie Christmas event on November 30th, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This family-friendly celebration is packed with holiday cheer and is free for everyone to enjoy.
Back in time
As part of the Kansas Chase County Country Christmas festivities, visitors can step back in time at the historic Spring Hill Ranch House, which will be bustling with holiday spirit. The ranch house will come alive with historic characters sharing tales of the times and their holiday preparations, all while classic holiday tunes fill the parlor.

For kids of all ages
Kids can get crafty, creating glittery snowflakes and ornaments to take home, using white sand and paint to add a unique touch. Meanwhile, guests of all ages can warm up with hot cocoa and popcorn as they take in the holiday fun.
Santa’s helper will also be on hand for special storytelling sessions of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. These readings, complete with candy canes for the kids, will take place at 12:45 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m., and 3:15 p.m.
And more…
The Christmas magic extends beyond the event itself. Through December 31st, the Spring Hill Ranch buildings and the Lower Fox Creek School will be adorned with festive decorations.
At the one-room schoolhouse, visitors can admire handmade decorations. Using materials true to the 1880s, snowflakes, paper chains, and even letters to Santa, decorate the schoolhouse. They will offer visitors a glimpse into the historic classroom’s holiday traditions.
