The video below from Josh the RV Nerd (picked by our readers as the best RV review channel of 2024) highlights five family 5th wheels. Josh says he is often asked what the best 5th wheel for a family is. He also says that is a tricky question because it depends on the family. However, he does put in the caveat that the five family 5th wheels in the video would be the five best for his family. But, maybe your family and his have some things in common. And maybe not. The five family 5th wheels on this list are all substantially large, many of them are literally apartments on wheels!
These are not full reviews, but rather quick “CliffsNotes®” versions of what you can expect from the five family-friendly bunkhouse 5th wheels. If you like any of them, you can then dig in for further research. Josh does have full-length tour videos on each of these, linked in the comments under the video on YouTube.
The list is in no particular order. Be sure to watch the video to get a quick walk-through of each of these family-friendly 5th wheels, along with highlights of what they have to offer.
Josh the RV Nerd’s top five family-friendly 5th wheels:
Grand Design Reflection 31BHS: Josh likes this one because it has a bath-and-a-half and great camp-side window coverage. With opposite slide outs and an island kitchen, there is tons of space in this bunkhouse 5th wheel. It also has some features and details that you would normally only see in high-end motorhomes. This unit also has an amazing outdoor kitchen.
Jayco Eagle 29.5BHDS: At under 32 feet, this is one of the smaller bunkhouse models. Josh is impressed that over the years Jayco has continued to improve this already popular 5th wheel, making little tweaks and upgrades with each new model year. On the downside, it does not have the best travel access. Nonetheless, Josh likes its huge space and openness at camp without being a MASSIVE 5th wheel. It has a ton of outside and inside storage. The creative floor plan allows privacy at night in each of the sleeping quarters, yet a big open feel during the day. And the bunks are large enough to comfortably hold adults, so this 5th wheel need not be just for families. Read Tony Barthel’s review of this fifth wheel here.
Forest River Wildwood Heritage Glen OR Hemisphere 353BED: This one has great flexibility in that there are two complete separate bedroom suites, but they can also be used for an office or workspace, or a second living room or den, depending on your needs. Of course, this is a HUGE 5th wheel with a huge amount of space. Josh accurately calls it a rolling apartment. That rear bedroom is not only another room, it contains a unique sleeping loft. If you need a lot of space and/or have a big family, you have to see this one! Read Tony’s review of the 2022 Wildwood Heritage Glen 353BED here.
Alliance RV Paradigm 395DS: Josh says this might be his favorite dual-bedroom suite 5th wheel, as he says Alliance did it just a little bit better than the competition. He loves the living and seating area that’s big enough for the entire family, even if they are stuck inside on a rainy day! Likewise, it’s also big enough for entertaining. As the RV features two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a couple of families could even travel together in this. Plus, there is a sleeping loft over the rear bedroom. This has more space than many bricks-and-sticks apartments.
Brinkley RV Model Z3610: Josh likes the mid-bunk floor plan because he says it is a bunkhouse that can be more than just a bunkhouse, especially handy as the kids are getting older, since that bunkhouse room can have many other uses. He also says this is one of the most comfortable 5th wheels out there.

Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Have a great weekend and safe travels! 🙂
Boy, I really like the Brinkley line of trailers! We were able to tour three of them at a local RV sales event at a nearby casino lot. Lots of different brands but the Brinkley trailers stood out for all the reasons Josh mentions. It might be the only brand that would tempt me to stray from Arctic Fox (our current trailer).
