The unusual 2026 Beauer 3X European expanding travel trailer

The Beauer 3X might be the wildest RV anyone has ever seen. At Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, it stopped people in their tracks, including Myles of Myles RVs, who called it the “craziest thing I’ve seen in Europe so far.” This tiny cylinder on wheels tows like a compact trailer, then expands into a full-width, livable space that feels nothing like its road size.

Even though Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf is known as the largest RV show in the world, the Beauer 3X still managed to stand out. Among thousands of motorhomes, caravans, and travel trailers, this French-built camper drew a crowd every time it expanded.

At first look, Myles was hooked. The shape was playful, the engineering clever, and the concept unlike anything else at the show.

A few things make the Beauer 3X unforgettable

  • Cylindrical, almost egg-shaped body when towing
  • Fresh, fun look that feels more like a rolling pod than a box
  • Expansion system that turns a narrow tube into a wide, livable cabin

Road mode

In road mode, the Beauer 3X is about 2 meters wide, or roughly 6 feet. The body length is about 12 feet (around 365 centimeters), so it tows like a tiny compact travel trailer.

From the side, it almost looks like a rolling ball or egg behind the tow vehicle. The short length and low weight make it a good match for many small crossovers and compact SUVs, especially the kinds commonly seen in Europe.

The magic of expansion

Parked on site, the 3X shows its trick. The central cylinder houses three interconnected sections that slide out sideways. Once deployed, the interior expands to about 4.6 meters wide, or roughly 15 feet.

Because it grows side to side, the owner has to think more about campsite width than depth. A wide pitch is better than a long, narrow one for this trailer.

The first floor plan starts with a small living and dining area up front, then the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom at the rear. The floor stays level from front to back, with only small step changes at the slide transitions.

Interior sidewalls are fiberglass, and soft brush seals line the expansion joints to keep out wind, dust, and bugs. Dual-pane acrylic windows bring in light, with privacy shades and bug screens on the main opening windows. The front dinette uses a compact table and bench seating that makes good use of the curved wall.

Myles, who is tall, could stand comfortably in much of the trailer. In some spots, interior height felt close to 6’4″, especially near the bedroom.

In this layout, the bedroom sits at the rear. It has:

  • A bed that looks close to a queen size
  • Reading lights and LED light strips
  • A rear window for natural light

The mattress platform appears to be velcroed in place, so there is little or no storage under the bed itself. There are small cubbies and overhead storage instead.

The ceiling in the bedroom is lined with a soft, carpet-like fabric. That adds insulation and also changes the acoustics. The host, who previously worked in audio engineering, pointed out that the bedroom sounds noticeably quieter than the rest of the camper.

The kitchen in this floor plan sits between the front seating area and the bathroom. It includes:

  • A small refrigerator with a separate freezer compartment
  • A compact two-burner cooktop
  • A small sink
  • A Samsung microwave tucked into the corner
  • Deep drawers that feel solid and well-built

Storage is not huge, but it is respectable for such a short trailer. The host noted that some construction details differ from common U.S. travel trailers, and many of those choices feel more refined.

The bathroom is a full wet bath, and it has one of the lower ceiling areas in the unit. Standing height in the bath is around 5’10”, so taller people might sit on the toilet while showering.

Inside the bath, there is:

  • A cassette-style toilet
  • A flip-down sink that folds against the wall
  • A handheld shower head that swings into position

When the sink folds up, water drains behind it, and the entire room is built to handle spray from the shower. Mirrored doors with magnetic latches close the bath off from the rest of the trailer.

Height zones inside

Ceiling height changes as a person walks from one end of the 3X to the other. The bedroom is the tallest, then the kitchen and living areas, and the bathroom sits lowest.

For most campers, the layout still works fine, especially given the compact tow size.

Second Beauer 3X floor plan

The second 3X on display used a different interior layout and color scheme. This version placed the kitchen near the center of the trailer and gave the seating area a slightly different feel.

Bench seating along the wall hides storage underneath. The bedroom in this model keeps the same soft ceiling fabric and warm lighting as the first version. It feels cozy and a bit separate from the rest of the living space.

In the bathroom of this layout, a section of the floor lifts out to reveal the shower base. That space becomes the standing shower area. The bathroom door latches in place to act as a privacy door from the main living area, while another door closes off the bedroom when needed.

A tall cabinet near the bath can be opened from both sides, so the same storage is reachable from the bedroom and bathroom.

Beyond the hidden storage under the seats and in overhead cabinets, there are small shelves and cubbies scattered through the unit. The design makes use of almost every curve.

Air conditioning is built into the body of the camper rather than mounted on the roof. Vents run through the structure and feed cooled air into the living space without a big rooftop unit spoiling the shape.

Specs and pricing

From the details shared at the show, the main numbers are:

  • Towing width: about 6 feet (around 2 meters)
  • Expanded width: about 15 feet (around 4.6 meters)
  • Dry weight: roughly 2,000 to 2,100 pounds (about 950 kilograms)
  • Payload: around 700 to 800 pounds (about 300 to 350 kilograms)

That weight puts the 3X within reach of many small tow vehicles, especially useful in Europe.

Pricing at the show landed around 40,000 to 45,000 euros, which works out to about $50,000, depending on options and exchange rate.

The Beauer 3X is the kind of camper that would cause a stir at almost any campground. The host joked that if someone pulled into a U.S. park with one of these, the entire campground would probably be gathered around within 30 seconds to watch it expand.

It is not a huge trailer. Storage is modest, and some spaces are tight. Still, for people who love design, clever engineering, and conversation-starting rigs, this little cylinder that turns into a full-width cabin has a lot of appeal.

Why can’t American RV manufacturers be this innovative? Sure, there are companies like Taxa Outdoors, Happier Camper, and Lightship that have unique products. But none of our major manufacturers have anything even close to this unusual concept. It would certainly beat camping in any similar length, width, and weight teardrop trailer made in the U.S.!

So, it is actually being manufactured ? We have had interesting trailers like this for years called “Popups”, light in weight, expands up and out on both sides, some with a slideout. However Americans seem to prefer monster boxes.
