In the video above, we join DIY specialist Patrick Remington for a tutorial on how to make the best DIY portable shower for your camping trips. Whether you need a camping shower because your RV doesn’t have one, or you want to extend your boondocking time by showering outdoors and avoiding filling up your gray tank, or just to add an additional outdoor shower to rinse sand off feet or wash the dog, Patrick’s plan has you covered.
DIY portable shower supplies
In addition to some basic shop tools such as a drill, you will need:
- Valved bulkhead panel mount hose barb
- Quick disconnect valved hose barb 2 of 2
- Scepter™ jerry can
- Water pump
- 3000mAh battery
- Power connectors
- Cigarette lighter power supply
- 5.5mm x 2.1mm female to female connector
- Black shoulder bag
- Ear hose clamps
- Garden sprayer
- Expandable water hose
Patrick says this project is not so much a build as it is an install. You have a lot of parts that you will be strategically installing into the 20-liter Jerry can in order to make it function as a portable shower.
Watch the video as Patrick not only goes into details of the parts you will need but how it all comes together.
Patrick’s battery-charged portable shower can also be powered via a cigarette lighter power cord and a 12-volt connection. I liked how he found a small waterproof bag to attach to the Jerry can. The bag holds the battery and other components so that when the project is done you have a single unit that’s easy to pack and easy to move about where you need it.
While there are indeed a lot of parts, it all makes sense and if you simply get the needed supplies and follow along with Patrick in the video, you too will have an awesome DIY portable shower!
