The short video below from Totally Trailer can help you create more shelf storage in your RV cabinets. Storage space in RVs is always at a premium, but our host explains sometimes it’s not the lack of storage space that is the problem, but rather how inefficiently that space is used. Nowhere is this more apparent than in most RV cabinets.
Many shelves simply have too much space in between. Unless you are carrying a lot of big or tall items, this can result in a lot of wasted RV storage space.
Our host decided it would not be too hard to add additional shelves and double the amount of storage capacity in his pantry RV cabinets.
The video shows just how he did it.
As he could not drill into one side of the cabinet without hitting the refrigerator and did not want to drill holes in the other side of the cabinet, the project began with cutting some small boards to put inside the cabinet that the new shelves would sit upon.
The video shows the entire process, which is easy enough for beginners to accomplish with minimal tools. And the best part of it is, the shelves are solid and stable, without the need to drill into the RV itself.

I found lots of little storage spots throughout my RV, put stuff in them, and then had to take most of it back out because it was overweight.
As far as this specific hack, seems like it would make more sense to glue the support pieces in, and not have to screw in the new shelf. That way it can easily be removed.
I thought the same thing. Even using some velcro strips to hold the supports in place. You can also use some velcro dots to keep the shelf from shifting back and forth.
Plus, if you watch the video, the screws are going in at an angle. Pre-drilling and countersinking the screw holes make for a neater look
I also put shelves in all of my storage spaces to make them more usable. I used the shelves from HD and cut to fit. It was heavy and put a lot of weight in my rig. It looked and worked great but…I removed all of it except what was in the kitchen area. When I was professionally weighed I was 1600#s over!!!!! So it wasn’t just the heavy materials but all the “stuff” I was able to put on those shelves. Now I just use baskets and plastic bins and don’t take as much stuff with me.
One thing I did and this guy could do is use double sided tape or Velcro strips to hold the side pieces in place and no need for screws.
