The video below from the Foodporn YouTube Channel shows an ingenious hack—foil packet popcorn. Think of it as a kind of DIY Jiffy pop.
Even though the first video below shows this DIY popcorn hack being cooked on a stovetop, know that you can also use this foil packet popcorn trick to make campfire popcorn, as shown in the second video further down the page.
Stovetop foil packet popcorn
As the short video above demonstrates, it could not be easier. Take some heavy-duty aluminum foil (or two sheets of regular aluminum foil) and place popcorn kernels, butter, and salt in the center. Wrap it up. Place it in a skillet on the stovetop and cook, shaking frequently, until the popping stops. Get ready to enjoy some fresh, hot, buttered popcorn!
Campfire foil packet popcorn
The second video, below, by the YouTube channel How to do Anything, shows a variation of the technique. By attaching the foil pouch to a marshmallow or hot dog roasting stick, the video shows how you can pop the corn over your campfire. They use oil instead of butter in the packet, but it’s really up to you.
This video also shows the possibility of seasoning with salt and sugar for a foil-packed popcorn version of kettle corn.

I’ve never thought of adding sugar to popcorn. And won’t!
You never heard of Kettle Corn?
I later thought of that. But Kettle Corn is made differently than just sprinkling sugar on. Ya got me!
Hi, Tommy and Cheri. I’ve heard of kettle corn but never tried it and had no idea what it was or that it included sugar. Hmmm. Might have to try some. I’ve had caramel corn. YUM! Have a great day.🍿 😀 –Diane
Kettle Corn often shows up at county (or other local) fairs. They have a large kettle that is heated from the bottom. They toss in the popcorn and whatever they sweeten it with (probably sugar – duh) and swish it around with a large wooden paddle, hissing and steaming. Actually pretty good stuff.
Good morning, Tommy. Yeah, I’ve heard of it and seen the big kettle, but I just never tried it so didn’t know it was sweet. That’s probably a good thing or I would have been buying/eating it all of these years.🫤 BTW, I love popcorn! It’s considered a vegetable, isn’t it?😉 Have a great day. 🤗 –Diane
Not even caramel corn?🤔 Yum! Have a great day, Tommy. 😀 –Diane
As a kid, Sunday evenings after church mom would pop popcorn and we would eat it with sugar and milk, like breakfast cereal. I don’t know why. I guess it was one of those; “We were so poor that….”
Thank you, Cheri! I now think that I understand what kettle corn is and why I do not like it (the addition of sugar). Interesting how varied learning may be and how divergent from the intent it can be. 😉 Happy new year and safe travels!
