Honest Love’s Travel Stop RV site review—Worth it or not?

By Cheri Sicard
In the video below, we join Izzy and MJ from Endless RVing (one of the winners of our 2024 RV video awards) for their review of a recent stay at a Love’s Travel Stop.

If you have not heard, Love’s Truck Stops is putting in basic RV sites at many of their locations. RVers get a quick, convenient, overnight stop with hookups. For a price, usually between $30 and $50. The one our friends are reviewing is in Bull’s Gap, TN.

Personally, the only ones I have encountered charged $50, which, for me, is FAR too much to sit in a truck stop parking lot. I am a hard “no” on Love’s Travel Stops for that reason. So, I was curious to know what Izzy and MJ thought.

As with all their campground reviews, they break it into must-haves, like-to-haves, and “deal breakers.”

Must-haves:

Location: One of the biggest pros is that Love’s Travel Stops are conveniently located right off the highway, so they are always easy to get to.

Site size: Practically, there is enough space to function and put your slides out, but sites are close together.

Getting in and out: This is super easy as Love’s are truck stops built for large rigs.

Wi-Fi: This is included with the campsite, but it was not good and was very slow.

Level sites: The asphalt campsite was perfectly level.

Allow pets: Yes, they do!

Full hookups: Some Love’s Travel Stops have full hookups. This one did not, but there was electric and there was water and a dump station on site.

Overhang: There were no trees or overhead obstructions.

Like-to-haves:

Dog park: This Love’s Travel Stop did have a small fenced dog park, and apparently most of them do.

Bonuses: A large well-stocked truck stop store and tons of prepared food you can grab and go, and there’s available propane. There’s also a laundry and showers, although there is a charge for showers. In my opinion, these should be included with the campsite. Another reason Love’s are a hard NO for me.

Any deal breakers?

Dog breed restrictions: Not an issue at Love’s Travel Stops.

Bad reviews: This stop had a few bad reviews but overall, they were decent with an average of 4.3.

Maintenance and landscaping: This Love’s Travel Stop easily passed these tests as everything was clean and well maintained.

Safety and security: Despite being at a truck stop with lots of transient traffic, the place was well-lit and felt safe.

Attitude of campers: As most people are here for a quick overnight stop, this too was not an issue.

Attitude of staff: Could not have been better.

How much was the site? The couple paid $42.50 a night, not including taxes. The campground down the road was $55.00 a night.

Izzy and MJ admit that staying at the Love’s Travel Stop was not super-cheap, but it was super-convenient.

We’ve stayed one night at a Loves Travel Stop RV site. I emphasize one night as I’ve read reviews about how small the sites were (these were people staying more than one night, some a week!). Our likes: super convenient, good price ($34), easy access, level, close to amenities/necessities. Our dislikes: loud (but hey it’s a truck stop). We’ll do it again when our travels/routes permit.

No! Absolutely not! Way overpriced, noisy, and smelly. Did I also mention way overpriced? That is probably why they are never full.
No way I’m ever going to pay $50-$60 to stay in a truck stop. You cannot compare the price to a regular RV park because they are not an RV park. @@

Maybe overnight. Not $50! We have seen them on our trips, never stopped.

Yes we would stay. Wish there were more

Loves Truck Stop /RV Space:
These offer an alternative to late check ins and are convenient . Well lit and basic amenities. It’s like a “C store”, not cheap but very beneficial to Interstate travelers. Check ins are virtual . I vote 👍

We paid $34 for our site. It was convenient. The only problem was that there were several broken down RVs so spots were limited. It wouldn’t have been so bad but the RVs had been there for several days.

My only problem is the dog parks – big enough for a dachshund, no way for our two German Shepherds! They have space for a second LARGE dog park in the campsite areas.

I didn’t see any mention of what you do with your “toad”. Almost everyone with a motorhome has a toad and you’re not going to back in with it attached

We stayed at one in Sweetwater TX that had pull thrus and grass between sites. Super convenient with online reservations and gated with entry code provided. Only downside was $50 charge but worth it when needed.

We unhooked when we came in and parked our toad in one of the many open parking spaces. It was very convenient.

I unhook and park in front of my motorhome. It only takes 5 mins for me to hook up or unhook so not a big deal.

I’ve stayed at the Green River and Salina, UT Loves Travel Stops. Green River was terrible for too many reasons to type here. Salina was great for all the reasons in this article.

We Stayed at Loves in Salina UT was $53. Level site, clean and quiet. Would stay again conveniently right off interstate.

Have stayed at a Few.
All the plus’s are correct.
Cost quite a bit though for parking in a truck stop!
Pilot still allows RV’s and they have pull throughs, Loves does not unless they’ve added some west of the Mississippi in the last year.
To us it is a No Go.
Been FT for almost 5 years.
That’s our take on it.

We stayed at a fairly new Love’s campground in Texas this year. Full hookups, easy in and out. Perfect mileage wise in trip planning and we were on our way to the next stop. We will consider them again.

I remember when Love’s originally announced their RV site plans with a “projected” $15 per night charge. It didn’t take long for them to set the market prices well above that (I understand it’s a business). I haven’t yet stayed at one, but would should the need arise (and there wasn’t a nearby Cracker Barrel).

YES it is too much to pay per night when there is probably an RV park close by with several amenities for less $$ per site. I WIL NOT be staying at Loves RV sites.

I have overnighted at several Loves Travel Stops. Be sure to take advantage of the 10% discount if you’re a AAA or Good Sam member.

When the weather is blazing hot or freezing cold the electric hook ups are the main reason I stay so I don’t have to hear my generator all night. They’re quieter than the Truck parking lot and you can dump your tanks and refill water tanks. Easier to pull into late at night vs most private or state parks and usually cheaper.

We have stayed at multiple Love’s RV Parks. We were surprised at the price, expected to be less. Only disappointment was the RV parks that were carved out of a portion of what was parking. These sites were sloped for drainage purposes which made leveling to put out slides a challenge. We liked the convenience of quick in and out camping and able to gas up before leaving. We would stay again.

Great info!! Looking on Loves website not many have pull thrus. For me, I don’t want to disconnect for a one night traveling thru stay. I think that is a mistake on Loves part.

Gary

I guess if thru some misfortune and there was no place nearby to boondock for the night I would pay for the convenience. I’ve NEVER stayed at a Walmart or Cracker Barrel. I mean it’s not like you don’t have a bed with you to sleep in, but like I said if thru “some misfortune” but then it’s a lot easier in a small class C than some A class land train hauling a car behind it to find last minute spots for the night. If it was $20 I’d be more inclined but I still doubt I would plan it into my trip.

We’ve stayed at numerous Loves, and they were all great. Full hookups, pickleball, basketball, common grill area, and dog park. I’d rather see less amenities and a cheaper price, but I really like having Loves as an option when unexpected things happen.

I have stayed at several Loves RV camps and they are great for what I use them for. For my purposes, they are like an emergency overnight stop or when I can’t find a regular camp in an area. Some are a little better than others but most share some common threads. Noise is not as bad as one would think, appreciate the no touch check in, price is good and there the Loves store right there.

We took our 23′ TT from Youngstown Ohio to Seattle Washington. Was actually less money to stay at a Love’s RV Hookup than KOA. I actually hope they build more. 5 stars for Love’s. Also gave a wonderful Google review on each stay over.

Price is too high for what you get and at most I’ve seen, there’s no pull through sites, so it is a real inconvenience for motorhomes with toads. I’m not sure Loves is even aware of this.

Stayed at the cordele georgia 5/27 pulling into our site in the middle of a torential lightening storm. 1 hour passes it’s our power doesn’t work & the site next to us power works. Lady in office says you must move & I said this is ridiculous I’ll put my power over to that site. After much discussion she said “if you stay where you are I’ll have to charge you for both sites cause I can’t rent that site! OMG I told her you can’t anyway since the power isn’t working. She also said well I don’t know how to do the change into the computer!
I stayed & decided to dispute the charge if needed. Park looked real nice but it rain never stopped.

We’ve stayed at loves 2 times. They are very convenient right off the interstate. We stayed in Amarillo tx and two on i40 in Arkansas.we would prefer to stay in a rv park if loves is 50 dollars but at 35 they’ll work.

We stayed at the Loves RV Hook Up in Steele Alabama in May. The site was new, very nice and we felt secure. The high fence isolated us from the rest of the operation. You could also easily tell a large percentage of RV owners do not know how to maneuver their rigs into parking sites by the number of deep ruts already cut into the entrances and exit areas of the sites.
We could not fault the landscaping and amenities for an overnight stopping place but it was a pricey.
A problem with the park was the condition of the entrance. The entrance was soft from recent rains and our rig began to settle as we drove in. Deep ruts. Once in the park was solid. I’m sure they will soon fix this.

Hoo boy! This was one of those “Can I give it zero stars” situations. Perhaps it was just this particular Love’s that was the problem. I will find out when I try to contact their head office and report our experience.

We were heading east on I-10 and were looking for some place to camp for the night. We had heard about Love’s RV stops and when we saw one about 100 miles down the road at Las Cruces, NM we decided to give it a shot.

There doesn’t seem to be enough space to write the whole story. Short description – almost no water pressure and no electric. Complaints were met with references to their suppliers as if that was our problem. Horrible experience.

I have stayed at many locations. Each new location gets better and better. You can tell they are listening to their customers. Their web site has definitely improved. I’ve paid $42.50 to $50 each stay. For my class A, I “love” the convenience being right off the interstate, easy in and out, security, and I use my fuel card saving a ton on fuel.

So, I am at the Love’s at Cameron Mo. They have 6 sites. Have stayed here several times and the price was always $53 minus my Military discount. They round it up to 48. This time I tried to book a site, and they were all full, so I kept checking and the next day someone cancelled, and I booked but to my surprise I find out that since it was the last site they up charged me to $60. With military discount now $54. So, I thought maybe they charge more on Tuesday, so I tried booking the next Tuesday and it was $53. I also investigated and noticed that when there are only two sites left the fifth one is charged $55. They are also no longer give you free showers. Now it is $18 a head for a shower.
