As senior RVers, sometimes staying fit can become a challenge. In the video below from the new YouTube channel Jack and Darlene Live an Amazing Life, you will learn an essential exercise that every senior needs to do regularly. Luckily, you can do this crucial move inside or outside your RV or practically anywhere else without any special equipment.
Jack and Darlene in the video are personal friends of mine. Former circus performers (as am I), Jack is also a martial arts master, and Darlene was a professional Hollywood stunt performer (she famously doubled for Pam Anderson for all her Baywatch stunts).
Now retired from show business, the fit pair teaches martial arts and circus arts in their Florida studio when not traveling the world with their mothers. Lately, they have been especially focusing on fitness for those over 50.
According to Jack, seniors need to do this exercise as often as possible because this one exercise can literally save your life. What is this crucial move? Getting yourself up from the floor!
While it may sound simplistic, many seniors get into serious trouble if they fall and cannot get themselves up. It’s not an exaggeration. This happened to a friend of mine, and the consequences of the fall and being left for days before anyone found him ultimately led to his death.
The video is less than a minute long, but in it, Jack and his friend demonstrate several versions of the exercise that senior RVers, from beginner to advanced, can use.
In all instances, you will start from a prone position and stand upright. So, even if you have had injuries or are terribly out of shape, you can start building your strength with the version that matches your fitness level.
Jack’s more advanced version is an easy full-body workout that you could practice in the grass, on a beach, or on a yoga mat.
So listen to fitness expert Jack Bostock and do this simple move every day, and you will never have to say, “I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up.”

I’ve reached the point where it is hard for me to stand up from the ground. Not sure I can do this one, but I’ll give it a try. If I can keep the dogs out of the way while I’m doing it.
I was a 40 year mechanic, laid on the floor under heavy trucks a lot. Now 69, I can still get up from the floor or a creeper, but I sure don’t pop right up like I used to!
Same here.
Well I’ve got the first part of that exercise nailed! But the getting up part….not so much….
Hopefully what caused you to fall won’t happen when you get back up!
Where is the profanity and general expletives used by every senior when getting up off the ground?
I learned this several years ago in a Gentle Yoga Class, and I still use it today.
Thank you, Cheri! I will try it and keep trying it. Have had relatives who could not get themselves from the floor, so I know it should not be dismissed as a waste. Thanks again, have a great weekend, and safe travels! 🙂
WOW! 5 Stars for this and please re-run this article frequently! We tend to not think about the implications of falling and the difficulties of getting back up!
