It’s never too early to start planning your winter snowbirding RV trips. The video below from Holiday For Two can help, as Dave shares their favorite wintertime Arizona campgrounds.
The picks cover four paid campgrounds and one free BLM campground, so there is something to appeal to a wide variety of RV lifestyles.
Top five Arizona campgrounds for winter
These are in no particular order. Watch the video for full details on the number of campsites and amenities offered at each of these Arizona campgrounds.
• Gilbert Ray Campground, Tucson: This is a Pima County RV park. A site with full hookups is just $35 a night (as of this writing). It is close to many attractions and things to do, including Old Tucson, Saguaro National Park, the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, and all of Tucson.
• Quartzsite: BLM boondocking galore awaits in this winter RV mecca. The video details four different free campgrounds you might want to check out in Quartzsite, along with one BLM campground close to town that does charge fees.
• Lost Dutchman State Park, Apache Junction: This park is close enough to town for shops and restaurants. A ghost town and the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum are nearby.
• Catalina State Park, Tucson: As of this writing, it is only $35 a night with hookups. This campground is close to Tucson and everything it offers, plus it offers terrific hiking and equestrian trails. Outdoor concerts and other events happen regularly here, so check their event calendar before visiting.
• White Tank Regional Park: This Maricopa County Park is a small campground with amazing views. It can accommodate big rigs but do make reservations as there are only 40 spots. This campground is close to Phoenix, and all it offers, plus you will enjoy endless hiking and biking trails.

I have been fortunate enough to stay at both Lost Dutchman and Catalina State Parks on my Snowbird trips.
Both are absolutely fantastic as mountains and terrific hiking are at your doorstep.
I look forward to seeing them again in a few years.🇨🇦
We were park hosts at White Tanks Regional Park just west of Surprise AZ for six years. It is by far my favorite desert park. Campground has 30/50 amp and water. The sites are well spaced out and next to some fabulous hiking trails. The park is over 3000 acres so lots of places to hike or bike. It is well known for biking and even has a competitive biking area. Suggest early booking because they do fill up over the winter.
We even make the 18 mile trip from our home to camp with friends there!
Great park but you fail to mention that if your rig is over 28 foot you don’t fit.
We’ve been to both White Tank and Catalina in a 34′ 5er.
We love mountain camping because we live in Colorado. But, when we are in Tucson, we actually prefer the Gilbert Ray county park campground to Catalina State Park. But our favorite Arizona state park campground is Kartchner Caverns.
Thank you for calling attention to the video and summarizing the major points, Cheri! This is the latest of articles that make me wonder how recently, if ever, a survey of the readership has been taken concerning where they “live.” It seems that Gail, who lives in Missouri, is the eastern-most writer. I wonder if the readership is similarly arrayed geographically? Meanwhile, have a great week and safe travels!
