Innovative trailer pops out and pops up, resulting in lots of space

By Cheri Sicard
Ready to rethink what a trailer can do? The EPIK Ranger from Adventure Series RV sets a new standard for off-road and off-grid camping. Designed as the bigger sibling to the EPIK Scout, this rugged trailer combines ultra-modern build techniques with standout flexibility. With pop-up and slide-out features, it transforms from a straightforward towable into a spacious, adventure-ready basecamp in seconds.

In the video at the end of this post, we get a tour from the team at New Jersey Outdoor Adventures.

The EPIK Ranger trailer’s construction is a leap ahead of most trailers. No wood anywhere—just tough-as-nails Azdel composite walls combined with lightweight aluminum trim. The welded steel frame sits atop a thick rubberized coating for added protection.

Staying comfortable on backroads calls for the right gear. The EPIK Ranger sports massive 33-inch all-terrain tires, along with an independent Cruisemaster suspension system. This setup smooths out rough tracks and keeps everything stable.

Other key specs of the EPIK Ranger:

  • Dry weight: 3,500 pounds
  • GVWR: 5,000+ pounds
  • Heavy-duty articulating hitch
  • Mechanical parking brake

It’s a setup made to follow wherever a mid-sized SUV or pickup can go.

Expansive space

The EPIK Ranger trailer raises the bar, literally, with its pop-up roof. This clever ceiling gives over 7 feet of standing height, helping the compact camper feel anything but cramped once you park. Thick insulated panels lock in warmth for cold weather use.

Nine dual-pane windows (all with bug and privacy screens) flood the space with daylight and fresh air. Even with the roof down, campers get about 6’7” standing room.

Compact doesn’t mean cramped. The EPIK Ranger’s kitchen brings together:

  • Sink with slide-out aluminum cabinetry for extra surface area
  • Dual-burner stove for cooking meals inside
  • Vitrifrigo fridge/freezer system with dual zone options
  • Double-latching aluminum cabinets and deep drawers, built to hold up on the move
  • Stretchy bulk storage for odds and ends

Plenty of outlets let the dinette area double as a mobile office or charging station.

A trailer that sleeps 3–4 is serious about family adventure. The dinette converts to a bed for guests or kids, while the bedroom features a bed bigger than a queen, topped with deep drawers for gear.

Bathroom layout in the EPIK Ranger trailer

The bathroom layout makes the most of the compact floor plan:

  • Slide-out compost toilet for simple use and stow-away design
  • Interior shower with roll-away door
  • Ventilated window for airflow
  • Optional gray tank for managing shower waste
  • Dimmable LED lights for comfort any time of day or night

The propane furnace and a 6-gallon water heater keep things cozy on chilly nights. If summer heat is a concern, a portable EcoFlow WAVE 2 air conditioner can cool the space efficiently.

Every EPIK Ranger prototype arrives wired and ready for off-grid adventures:

  • Renogy 3000W inverter
  • MPPT solar charge controller
  • DC-to-DC charger
  • Three Renogy lithium iron phosphate batteries
  • Roof-mounted solar panel

Ease of access and durability are covered with a modular entry door and a rugged woven steel mesh screen for both bug and bear proofing. The mechanical parking brake secures the rig, while rubber mat floors make cleanup a breeze.

The roof mechanism is simple and smart. Hinges and side latches allow the roof and oversized windows to fold down quickly. Pull the top with the included strap to lock it into place when setting up camp.

Soft storage pouches fill every nook for personal items and cords. The 30-gallon freshwater tank tucks under the bed, and a small cubby can serve as a trash or gear spot.

The model shown is a prototype. Some features and specs will evolve before full production. For details on pricing, options, and announcements, head over to the official EPIK Ranger page.

Most innovative off-road camper I have ever seen! If I were 30 years younger, I would definitely want one of these for remote trout fishing and kayaking in the Rockies.

Nice trailer. Does it have, or will it have, an awning and a grey water tank? What is the max weight on the bed when extended? Last but not least, the MSRP.
MSRP: Starting at $67,200.

That is an impressive use of a small camper!

Thank you for calling attention to the video and summarizing it, Cheri! I look forward to this becoming a production model. The volume of lithium iron batteries strongly imply a high price tag, but the capability (and build quality?) suggest it may be well worth the money. Have a great day and safe travels!

Seems rather heavy for its size…
