3 unique products for your RV kitchen

Every now and then it’s a good idea for RVers to look through kitchen drawers and cupboards. We usually take stock and replace missing or broken items this time of year—when we come off the road to celebrate the holidays with family. We also identify trouble spots and look for products or DIY projects to address them.

This year, I discovered three unique products to improve our RV kitchen. Check them out!

Measuring spoons

I’m not sure where they went, but I only have one measuring spoon remaining in our RV’s kitchen drawer—a tablespoon. I recently found these cute, double-use measuring spoons and fell in love with them.

The design is clever to be sure, but I especially love that both measuring cups and spoons are integrated into this one product. Not only will the “Shelly” replace my missing measuring spoons, but I can remove my current measuring cups from the drawer, too. The “Shelly” features a measuring cup on one end, while the other end is a measuring spoon. This clever product nests together, too, saving precious RV drawer space.

Sink drip catcher

Our RV kitchen sink is mounted in the island. I like the configuration, because I can face my husband as I do dishes. I don’t appreciate the invariable drips and spills that fall onto the floor every time I use the faucet.

This silicone product is fashioned so that water is redirected back into the sink—right where it belongs. It’s large enough to handle a sponge and hand soap dispenser, too. Woo-hoo!

Four-in-one

Talk about versatility! This handy gadget does so many things. First, it prevents boil-overs on the RV stovetop. You simply place the flat silicone on top of the cooking pot. That spaghetti will not boil out of the top and make a mess on the stove. Frankly, I’d purchase the set of two spill stoppers just for the boil-over feature alone!

The spill stopper also functions as a vegetable steamer. Place your prepared veggies on the spill stopper. Then place the silicone pad over a pot of boiling water to steam the food. (I’d put a lid on top for optimum steam.)

In addition to the spill-stop and steamer functions, this item can also be used in the microwave oven to prevent food splatters. You can use it as a hot pad to protect your RV countertops from hot pans and it will keep a plate of food warm, too!

With this one item, I can remove my clunky, space-hogging vegetable steamer, microwave food splatter cover, hot pads, and one or two cookware lids. This will free up space in the RV kitchen cupboards and make working in the kitchen a bit easier, too.

Wish the measuring cups/spoons had a way to hang them. Also, be sure to take measurements before purchasing the drip catcher. We bought one (not the one shown) and the distance between the front of the fixture to the edge of the sink was quite a bit bigger than what we purchased. So, it doesn’t work like it’s supposed to, otherwise these are both great suggestions.

We have a set of collapsible, soft-plastic, measuring cups that nest in the drawer. We also have a collapsible, soft-plastic tea kettle with a hard plastic base and removable cord that we keep in the same cabinet as the K-cup coffee pot, box of K-cups, boxed tea bags, and powdered coffee creamer.

The collapsed tea kettle fits under a free-standing wire shelf and the coffee and tea sit on top of the shelf. We use those white, plastic-coated wire shelves in nearly all our MH cabinets to stack everyrhing from dishes to clothes. They make it much easier to retrieve items without unloading the whole cabinet!

I use collapsible measure cups and spoons. But, I’ve never used the measure spoons. My stainless pots have measure marks in them. I have a collapsible pot and don’t use it. A collapsible bowl for mixing that I rarely use. I don’t have a regular oven, so I use a stovetop dutch oven. Another thing I really like is an Ultimate Outdoor Oven which I’ve used for biscuits, cinnamon rolls, hashbrowns–take it apart for pancakes, etc. I love the cast iron dutch oven but am now trying an aluminum dutch oven for less weight. But I cook outside, so my needs may differ from most. I can certainly use a spill stopper.

Thank you, Gail! No, nothing to add. We more thaw things than actually cook. Have a great weekend and safe travels!
