Harbinger, a U.S. automotive and industrial manufacturer, has introduced a new business unit called Harbinger Industria and named Airstream its first customer for off-grid power systems.
The company said Harbinger Industria will offer battery technology as standalone products for energy storage and auxiliary power.
Airstream is integrating Harbinger’s power system into its new Trade Wind 27FB travel trailer, which was unveiled this week with a focus on extended off-grid camping and solar integration.
Harbinger designs and builds its battery systems at a factory in California using lithium-ion cells supplied by Panasonic Energy. The company said the systems meet automotive-grade standards for performance and safety.
Harbinger co-founder and CEO John Harris said the move expands the company’s technology into recreational vehicle markets. Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler said the system offers users longer off-grid operation.
The Trade Wind 27FB’s energy system includes up to 18.5 kilowatt-hours of storage, a 600-watt rooftop solar array and a 5,000-watt inverter. The setup also monitors system status and manages battery performance, the companies said.
Airstream and Harbinger are showing the Trade Wind 27FB and the Harbinger Power System at the 2026 Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa through Jan. 18.
Final specifications, dealer availability and pricing are expected this spring.

Thank you for the news, RV Travel! Now I am keen to learn how well this all works in use. Have a great week and safe travels!
We have a 2024 Phoenix Cruiser 2351d that uses a similar system: “Phoenix USA RV partners with Volta Power Systems to offer advanced, generator-free lithium power systems on their Class B+ Phoenix Cruiser and TRX models. This system, which replaces the traditional propane generator, allows for extended off-grid, boondocking capability, including running the air conditioner and high-power appliances for 24 hours without shore power.”
