In the video below we join Carsteve_Ourworld and Airstream owner Piers for a tour of an incredible and unusual wood-paneled Airstream restoration like no other I have ever seen.
You really need to watch the video to get a true appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into this Airstream restoration. The inside is equally as breathtaking as the outside.
Piers used Western Red Cedar as his principal building material. At the time he was experimenting with using boat-building techniques in RVs. He incorporated some innovative ideas, too, like sandwiching recycled plastic bottles between the interior and exterior layers of timber for insulation.
It took Piers two years to complete the project. He had never done anything like it before and had to teach himself several skills along the way.
Piers is not really intending to travel in the trailer, but rather use it as a static extra room for his house or as a guest cabin. He also started a business building them for others.
What do you think of Piers’ unique creation? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

I’m confused. Did this guy cover a standard aluminum Airstream with wood or did Airstream actually make a wooden TT and he did just “restore” it?
Mikal, my conclusion from the audio (once it kicked-in) is that this was built and not a renovation. A renovation if the chassis is from another RV, but that isn’t clear from the video.
In a word? Stunning!
I appreciate it as an art piece… but I’d sure get tired quickly of seeing nothing but wood walls & ceiling.
And you wouldn’t get tired of seeing aluminum? The one thing I don’t like about Airstreams is the aluminum interior.
Thank you, Cheri, for the video and summary. I recall seeing this several months ago. It still looks stunning and very expensive to construct. Have a great day and safe travels!
