Campground Views, an online platform that connects RVers with campgrounds and RV parks, now features more than 3,350 virtual drive-through tours across North America including Alaska. In addition, it includes information about more than 17,000 other conventional places to stay as well as 7,500+ boondocking locations.
The virtual tours are what make the platform shine, providing users with a closer look at campgrounds, RV parks, dump stations, and free camping sites, making it easier to select the best location for their needs.
Visitors to the platform can select campgrounds and RV parks in areas they plan to visit and then actually “drive” through them like with Google Street View. They can stop anywhere and size up the landscape just as if they were standing right there. Low branches, fender-bending tree stumps, nearby roads or railroad tracks or a too-close neighbor may persuade them to “drive on” to search for a better site.
“Our mission has always been to make camping accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” Mark Koep, CEO of CampgroundViews.com, said. “With the relaunch of our website and apps, we’ve taken a significant step forward in providing a comprehensive and user-friendly platform.”
One of the key features of the updated website is its ability to quickly filter results based on specific needs. Whether users are looking for campgrounds with specific amenities, proximity to popular outdoor destinations, or even free camping options, the platform’s search options make it easy to narrow down choices.
RVtravel.com has been a big fan of CampgroundViews.com since it debuted in 2012 with its unique ability to allow visitors from afar to size up a place to stay almost as if they were standing right at the site. And, even better, those who see a campsite they like instantly learn if it is available when they want it, and if so, make a reservation on the spot. A basic membership to Campground Views is free, with an enhanced version for $24.99.

It is interesting that sites, such as this, were at one time a free service to other RV’ers. Unfortunately, they all have seemed to jump on the money train. There are many other ways to view campgrounds and sites beside having to pay a subscription fee.
Mike, I don’t believe you understand how much time, effort and expense went into creating, building and maintaining Campground Views. Do you think that a complex site like this can be created with little or no expense? No resource that I know of has come close to providing the service this one does. Check out the free version. Is a membership worth $25? Without a doubt! — Chuck Woodbury, publisher
Sorry Chuck, but between Google earth and a couple of other websites, I can pretty much get all the info I need without spending another $30 – 50 annually.
So Mike, you don’t find a use for it. Others won’t either. I’m sure a certain a percentage of the RVing public will, however.
So who should pay for the development and maintenance of the site or should people do it out of kindness ?
Thank you, RV Travel, for the description of Campground Views. I did not know that there was a free version. Seems a nice supplement to our usual tools. I will try to remember to check out their offerings. Have a great weekend and safe travels! 🙂
I just took a ‘tour’ (sample) of the “Red Rock RV Park” in Island Park, ID. Whether I join the site or not, Red Rock RV Park is now on our list of ‘must go’ parks. Really nice looking park with lots of room. While you might be able to do an inspection with Google Earth, I doubt a drive-through would be possible. Google’s ground views are almost exclusively on pavement, and not on private property. I think Chuck’s explanation is spot on.
Great article, and the site seems useful, but be careful with that “free” claim. You wrote, “A basic membership to Campground Views is free, with an enhanced version for $24.99.” All true, BUT the free basic membership is free for one day! I was immediately directed to the $24.99 membership screen to put in your credit card info. A little misleading on the website’s part. Still interested though, but just throwing that info out there for your readers.
Thank you for your comment, Cindy. (I apologize for not replying sooner.) We reached out to CampgroundViews.com, and Mark Koep, the CEO, explained it this way: “… the free membership is perpetuity. The way our system works is we set it up as 1 day to activate it but they will continue to have access after the fact.” I hope this helps reduce your concerns. Have a good night. 😀 -Diane at RVtravel.com
