This has long been my favorite and one of my most-used RV kitchen gadgets. I was first sent one for review about 20 years ago or so when I was editor and publisher of a large food and cooking website. It instantly became one of my favorite kitchen tools.
I have never understood why this gadget has not caught on more. I suspect it’s because of bad marketing that calls the Toss and Chop salad scissors or, even worse, salad tongs. Wrong! They are NOT tongs in any way, shape or form.
Yes, you can chop and toss your salad in one bowl and this gadget makes for a neat and efficient way to make salads. But they do so much more than just chop salads!
These ingenious double-bladed kitchen scissors make it easy to cut, dice, or even mince almost anything, right in the bowl. The Toss and Chop takes up hardly any room, is easy to clean, and needs no electrical power. I even use my Toss and Chop in my home kitchen.
It may take a bit more elbow grease, but the Toss and Chop can substitute for many food processor functions (aside from pureeing). Want something roughly chopped? No problem. Diced? Chop a little longer. Need an ingredient minced? Just chop even longer.
I use mine for salads, to make salsas right in the bowl, to prep veggies like diced onions for cooking, and even to chop cooked meats.
See the Toss and Chop “salad scissors” in action in the video on the Amazon listing.
Anyone who has ever watched me use mine usually immediately orders one. They make great RV gifts, too. I have long since lost count of how many I have ordered as gifts over the years.
What I especially like about Toss and Chop food prep and salad scissors
- Small and lightweight.
- Versatile for lots of uses.
- Easy to use and clean.
- The ergonomic handles make it easy and comfortable to use.
- Since fingers are far from the chopping area, accidents are minimized—even the kids and grandkids can help.
- Sturdy and long-lasting. My original Toss and Chop is over 20 years old and still going strong.
What can be improved?
In my opinion, the only thing that needs improving about this product is their marketing campaign. This handy gadget should be in every kitchen—RV or bricks-and-sticks!

Thank you, Cheri! You have convinced me and I have added it to my Amazon wish list. If it passes DW’s scrutiny, then I expect that we’ll have 1 or 2 by the new year. I guess we’ll see. 🙂
It is so easy to use and so useful. Nearly everyone (who cooks) who has seen me use mine has wanted one and loves it too.
