It happened again! A sudden breeze dislodged our RV’s emergency window. The emergency bar latch fell outside our RV. I need an RV emergency window fix—and I need it now!
Open?
You may be wondering why the emergency RV window was open in the first place. (That’s what my husband wondered as he wrestled the ladder out of the RV’s basement and positioned it beneath the emergency window.)
I was attempting to air out our rig. It was the first cool day of the fall season. After running the air for months while staying on Colorado’s hot western slope, I was ready for fresh air.
I should have known better—this isn’t the first time a breeze dislodged our RV’s emergency window. I was more than ready for it to be the last!
A good thing
It really is a good idea to open your emergency windows at least once each time you take an RV trip. That’s because the rubber seal around the windows sometimes sticks and can make opening the window difficult or, in some cases, nearly impossible. This is more than an inconvenience. After all, you don’t want to discover a stuck window during a real emergency!
Window wedge

So, as my husband rescued the emergency handle, I jumped online. I remembered seeing a device months ago on Etsy and, sure enough, I found the Window Wedge.
This small device fits securely on the window handle and was developed by an RVer, so you know it functions as advertised. The wedge holds the window tightly in place, making it impossible to blow open and push the handle outside.
I ordered a set of two Window Wedges immediately. They arrived within two days and work great!
Alternative

While browsing on Etsy I found an alternative solution to the emergency window problem. It’s a latch adapter and works to hold your emergency window open in various positions, which is nice if you don’t want the window open all the way. This item also received rave reviews from RVers. It costs just a couple of dollars more.
How about you?
