A list of excellent RV service centers, shops and mobile techs, as recommended by our readers

Each week in Nanci Dixon’s column, RV Service Centers and Repairs Report, our readers write in and share their horror, and not-so-horror stories of RV service centers. Faithful reader Neal Davis compiled a list of RV service centers, shops and mobile techs that our readers have recommended in that column. We are adding new locations to the list as recommendations come in.

Please keep in mind that these recommendations are from readers and usually the service dates are unspecified. As service centers can have significant employee and management turnover, remember to exercise due diligence when selecting a mobile tech or service center.

A list of great RV service centers, shops and mobile techs, as recommended by our readers:

Alabama

Bob Tiffin Service Center and Parts

  • (256) 356-0261
  • 904 Gates Street
    Red Bay, AL 35582
  • Website
  • Tim L. wrote: “We just returned from our first pilgrimage to Red Bay, Alabama, home of Tiffin. What a remarkable facility. The repair shop has 48 bays and can do just about everything needed. As an example, our dryer stopped working and Tiffin gave us the option of ordering a new heating element, or replacing the entire dryer, which they had in stock. The mechanics’ bay was able to do all the 15,000-mile Cummins maintenance and generator service. We are looking at Tiffins again, and whether we decide on a new or slightly used one, our first trip will be to Red Bay. We were stunned about how many owners did this exact thing. The general consensus was that there were NO reliable dealers.” Editor’s note: We make the pilgrimage almost yearly and work with the experienced vendors there, too.
  • Kenny L. is happy with his service and repairs. He wrote, “We bought a Tiffin for just this reason. The Bob Tiffin Service Center in Red Bay, AL, is not out of the way at all. You call ahead and get paperwork emailed to you, be placed on the list, and get in timely for repairs and service. With all the problems at the dealers, I can’t imagine it any other way.”

Graves Automotive

  • (205) 668-6261
  • 44 Blue Cat Ln
    Calera, AL 35040
  • Website
  • Wayne B. wrote about the difficulty of finding a shop to evaluate odd tire wear and found a great one. “Recently bought a used Class A and after a couple of trips I noticed an odd front tire wear pattern. My first thought was alignment. It took weeks to find a nearby shop for the Class A alignment. Even truck shops won’t touch them. Then, by chance, I found Graves Automotive and RV Repair. Malcom evaluated all applicable systems and suggested new high-quality shocks as well. He also suggested some stabilization additions. What a difference it made in steering and handling. And much to my pleasant surprise, the RV shop manager was a master technician that I’d known for years. If you’re in the Calera, Alabama, area I recommend Graves Automotive and RV Repair. I give them an 11 out of 10.”
  • Wayne B. later wrote about more work done by this shop: “On the most recent trip, I experienced awning damage. Mr. Malcom Graves of Graves Automotive and RV Service was true to his word. Within one week, as promised, he had all the parts and the work completed. On the RV side, the manager, Mr. Thomas, worked with my insurance company to cover the awning damage and installation of the new one. Again, prompt and as promised. This was an extremely satisfactory evolution and it’s less than five miles from my home. I highly recommend Graves Automotive and RV Service in Calera, Alabama.”
  • Wayne B. weighed in yet again: “I get most of my Class A mechanical work done close to my home at Graves Automotive. It is off I-65 on State Route 25, Exit #228 (approximately), about 3 miles off the interstate towards Columbiana, AL. Ask for Malcom or hit #2. Phone # is 205.668.6261. Graves Automotive is an excellent shop for mechanical, both gas and diesel. He also has a very capable RV crew for any type of RV-related repair. The RV leader, Lyle, has 35 years of experience in RV repair. I’ve personally used his expertise for close to 20 years. If calling the above number for RV repair, hit #3 for connection to Lyle. As a bonus, they have three concrete pads with full hook-ups, if you need to wait for parts.”

Long-Lewis of the River Region

  • (888) 403-4010
  • 2091 Fairview Avenue
    Prattville, AL 36066
  • Website
  • Wayne B. says, “When I first got my Thor Ace 33.1 in August 2023 as a second owner, I noticed two issues after our first trip. Intermittent skipping in the engine was an initial issue. Fortunately, I found the Ford Truck Shop (Long-Lewis of the River Region) in Prattville, AL. About a half day after dropping it off, they identified a split #3 wire. Covered by warranty still. A few trips later, I determined I needed an alignment. After several turn-downs by various owners, Malcom was great in getting the job done quickly. They now have all my business, from RV tech stuff to motor and F53 chassis concerns. Highly recommend them.”

Formerly Countryman Marine & RV, the staff and technicians stayed on when Momentum bought out the original owner. They have done good work on my coaches and have earned my trust. They are my first choice when I need work on the RV systems on my coach.”

Shafer’s RV

  • (205) 884-1220
  • 3622 Martin Street S.
    Cropwell, AL 35054
  • Has mobile tech
    Yelp listing
  • Wayne B. had this to say: “I have been very fortunate in the past ten years. I have a mobile tech that is 115 percent reliable. As a plus he also has a shop within 15 miles of me. Steve is very reliable, honest and just a great guy. He is a Master RV technician and his store is well stocked. He employs 4 very capable technicians. One experience with Camping World and another with RV Roadway and I’ll never use a dealership again. Shafer RV gets all my business.”
  • Cliff C. said this about Shafer’s, after experiencing unexplained noises coming from the furnace: “… I called Shafer’s RV in Cropwell, AL. Steve said to drop by. I got there and we started the furnace. It ran for 45 minutes and not a hint of noise. Steve gave the furnace a going-over but could not duplicate the problem. November and cold weather and here comes the noise. This time I recorded it. Got home and called Shafer’s and they said just drop it off. Took it in. Steve listened to the recording and told us he would call us. Back home we prepared for the average 10- to 12-week wait we had always encountered from dealer service departments. The next day, Steve called and said we were fixed and ready to go. He found the squirrel cage had a broken rim and two vanes were missing. He found the missing pieces melted into the sides of the furnace. As the cage would heat up, the broken rim would contact the pieces stuck to the housing. Problem fixed. In on Tuesday, called Wednesday, and picked up Thursday. It doesn’t get any better. Shafer’s RV Service, Cropwell, AL.”

Arizona

Camping World

  • (877) 882-9815
  • 2222 E Main St.
    Mesa, AZ 85213
  • Website
  • Bernie G. needed repairs on his RV after a mobile tech damaged the slide. He wrote: “We can’t say enough good things about Mesa Camping World. In January, the two motors on our largest slide failed in Butte, MT. The mobile tech we found, who had 5-star reviews, took a screwdriver and hammer to the slide mechanism doing irreparable damage. A local RV company charged us nearly $500 to shove on it and screw blocks into the wall to hold it to travel to our destination in AZ. Through calls and messages to Mike, the service manager, we set up an on-site call with Camping World at our RV resort. Steve arrived on time and spent three hours repairing the damage done. Parts were ordered and Mike kept us updated on all timelines. When parts arrived, Adam came to our site and replaced the necessary motors and damaged racks, plus gave us more info on other parts of our RV. With second thought, we purchased an extended warranty and the huge bill then became $200. Thanks, Camping World.”

I have been dealing with them since 2013. Since Les passed away, his son, John, now owns the business and renamed the company to Foothills RV Service & Supply. John is a clone of his father and continues the customer service that has prevailed at Foothills. Most of the employees have been with the family for 25-30 years and have an impressive level of experience. They are a full-service facility with fast, complete service and very reasonable rates.”

Not only did they put in a brand-new one, but he saved me $5,000 by telling me it was covered under my homeowners’ insurance. So I only had to pay a $500 deductible. Redwood Empire RV (Ukiah, CA) recommended NCD Painting (Ukiah) for repairs. Dropped the trailer off with Pete at NCD. There was more damage than was originally evident. It required the replacement of the entire rear panel as well as fiberglass repair to the side panel. Pete worked well with the insurance adjuster. Once the required parts arrived, the work was completed in a timely manner. Quality of work is EXCELLENT. The trailer was cleaned inside and out (even the vent screens). I highly recommend NCD Painting for RV repairs.”

I was able to take it to them in an agreed-upon time (about two weeks). In the four weeks they had it (one dealing with insurance), they installed a new roof, repaired the damage to the front cap (clearance light area), and painted and buffed the area. They even buffed out some scratches on the side of the Solitude. They don’t do any chassis work, but I highly recommend Norcal to anyone that needs a roof or has siding damage. They ain’t cheap, but quality work never is. And the quick turnaround time was a bonus.”

  • Gary S. wrote: “Great sales service and aftermarket product service from Camping World, Golden, CO. We purchased our second Class C from Camping World with the assistance of the same young salesman we used with our first Class C purchase. The salesman was knowledgeable and was not pushy to close the sale. We closed the transaction and a month later I ordered a front steering stabilizer, a rear trac bar and a towing package with the aftermarket product salesman. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all of my in-depth questions. Then he spent a couple of hours going over the hookup procedure of the tow bar and going over the software operation of the RVibrake3 system. I have read a lot of negative things about Camping World, but the service you get from any dealership can vary from location to location. And the most important thing to remember is the service you seek is only as good as the customer service philosophy of the dealership management and the people providing that service.”

I have to say that both shops have been professional and courteous, keeping me abreast of parts deliveries, job completion, and unknown issues that crop up. I was so impressed with my second dealer, Hi-Way Campers in Plainfield, CT, that I decided to update my 2018 Lance to the newer Truma upgrade with the European cabinets. They have been great on both the sale and servicing of my 2023 Lance! The first dealer had two locations, which proved beneficial; they were Alpin House in Amsterdam and Port Jarvis, NY.”

The day of the call, the service tech called me early and said when he expected to be there. Evidently, he finished a job early and called offering to come early or, respecting my time, would come when scheduled. Who does that these days? I was given a web link by CW, where I was able to track the status of the call. To make a long story short, they found the same issue with a second slide and I had both roofs replaced (onsite) in two days. Excellent service from Camping World in Bartow, FL, and kudos to the mobile service department.”

We needed an inverter replacement under warranty. Diagnosed by General RV Richmond during a holiday visit, we couldn’t stay and wait for the part, and so returned to Florida. They notified Thor and started the warranty approval process. … You can call any GRV service department number and the operator can schedule service at any location. West Palm Beach GRV’s first availability was two months out, but Dover GRV could see us in two days. Made the appointment, asked for the service advisor to call, and a few hours later Erica called. I explained the situation. She understood and extended the appointment to two weeks out while she ordered the replacement. It arrived as expected and was installed. And it works, so far. No glitches like lost keys or genset oil change costing $535 (that was Ft. Pierce). Dover GRV even let us stay overnight with a 50a hookup and a tank dump. Outstanding! Hopefully this is not a one-off. The dealership service is notoriously bad, but this one looks good. General RV in Dover/Tampa Florida.”

  • Jeanette W. has a good review about a mobile RV repair service that when they made a mistake, they stood by the customer. She wrote, “We had excellent service from a mobile repair in Central Florida. First, they replaced a leaking hydraulic slide ram. We then asked them to reseal the roof. It was not leaking and I want to make sure it doesn’t. They used a popular product.
“We went to South Florida and when I got on the roof to clean and wax it, I discovered the product they used did not adhere to the product used in the manufacture of the motorhome. We had little power and the motor was obviously running very rough without all cylinders. We pulled into Rush Truck Center in Orlando just after they opened. They told me there was normally a one- to two-month wait to look at motorhomes but agreed to help me because we were in a dire situation. I thanked the service writer and began to take apart the dash, etc., so the doghouse cover could be removed.”After about 30 minutes, a tech knocked on the door and said he was going to look at our coach. We took our kids and dog into the nice family lounge and waited. After a few hours, we were told that the issue was a wiring harness that had been damaged by a mouse. They replaced it and we were on the way a short time later. We lost about five hours of driving time but we were truly grateful that they helped us out and got us on the road again. On the way out I handed the service writer some cash as a thank you. He was reluctant to take it but I felt it was necessary for what they did for us.” There are still some great people and companies out there willing to help. You just have to find them.”

I have found RV Life Saver, LLC, a mobile tech, to be reliable, knowledgeable, and effective at the work I have requested on my new 2023 5th wheel. I have had them come for both maintenance and repairs. Both times they serviced my RV, they sent me a written estimate in a timely manner and did not vary from the price. The communication from the business is prompt as to the estimate and when they will be arriving to do the work. Because they are a mobile business, they travel to you. They were just at my house working on replacing a skirt that got damaged during travel, and noticed damage to the other side that I missed. They sent me a picture and an estimate, and I authorized a repair for that, saving me from a potential headache down the road due to possible water damage. On their website, they list their services and call number as well as prices for some services and repairs. These are the folks I trust with my rig.”

We met a certified RV tech, BJ, at Wandering Bear RV, in 2023. He installed a new oven door for us that we got from Grand Design under warranty. Installed it at no charge and he not only did it quickly, but he showed me how to do it myself. BJ also took time to look at the roof and other things on my travel trailer that he said should be inspected that most people don’t think about. He is a great person and a knowledgeable RV tech. He also does brakes, axles, and many other items that he has been trained to handle. I highly recommend him. If you’re ever in Florida, look him up; you’ll be glad you spoke with him first. My gas heating system was showing an over voltage shutdown error code. These folks worked on it for over 10 hours and could not find the problem even after numerous calls to Truma. They planned to remove the unit, carry it to a Truma training seminar. So I took it back in to have unit removed for the trip to the training. When removing the wires from back of wall monitor they found one was a little loose. They did not check before because it was reading too much voltage at that monitor. They called and said to come get my RV, it is all fixed. I went to pick up my Travato, the “WingIt”, and it was no charge at all. I know they worked on it over 10 hours. I was expecting to pay at least $1000. I will be using them from now on. (I have no part of the company, I am just a really satisfied customer.) We are still happy with the dealer and the unit. I’ve done my own repairs as needed and can reach the service manager for tech support quickly. They shipped out warranty parts quickly and only needed a few items. I’ve done a few proactive upgrades like external support of fresh water tank and added a extra check valve to the water pump. My only complaint is, dealers will not do warranty work for you if you bought from someone else! That is a black mark on the dealers and manufacturers.”
  • Scott P. writes: “I am writing to you about my great experiences with Wana RV. In 2021, I purchased a 2022 Rockwood Mini Lite. I live three hours away, and I always use Wana RV for my service needs. Wana RV has always got my trailer in quickly, and I usually have it back within a couple of weeks. The service manager, Kerry, is great to work with. I can email him with a question. He usually responds very quickly with the answer. I have emailed him needing parts, and I usually get the parts within a day or two. I had an issue with the fiberglass cap on the trailer after the warranty expired. Kerry contacted Rockwood, and Rockwood covered the cost of the repair saving me the cost of the repair. Kerry goes out of his way to provide great service to the customer. I recommend Wana RV to anyone who is looking to buy or who needs service for their RV.”
  • Doug D. also recommends Wana RV Center. He writes, “I want to give a shout out to Wana RV Center in Shipshewana, Indiana. We met them two years ago at an RV show. They spent a lot of time with my wife and me explaining options, quality, and of course price. We purchased our first RV, a 2023 Rockwood Mini Lite 2511S. We have had very few problems with it. But when we did have an issue or a question, the service department was very good to work with. From scheduling a service appointment, to ordering a replacement part (that I bent) and sending it to me, to just answering a question, they have been great to work with. The service manager is willing to help in any way he can. It is an hour drive from my house, but well worth the time to drive there.”

Our issues weren’t huge (door and screen not closing properly, bay latches not securing, USB plugs coming loose, etc.). We scheduled our RV for warranty service and had to reschedule twice due to our medical issues (one at the last minute). The Camping World schedulers were super-easy to work with and very understanding. When we got the RV in, the repair folks went over the issues in detail so they were conversant with the problems and made sure we understood the process they had to follow. They did exactly what they said they’d do—kept us apprised, did the work without challenge, and surprised us with a call within a week that our coach was ready. When we picked it up, they went over each repair in detail, explained what they did, and then told us about a repair they’d made that we hadn’t noticed. The repair manager we worked with then spent his time talking about some suggestions we might want to consider and answered some other questions we’d thought of. Throughout this experience, we felt like we were their only and most important customer. 10 stars out of 5! Will return to this Camping World for service, gladly.”

Both of these occurrences took place outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky. First, it was the full wall slide on our 2022 Thor Aria that would not function. This year one of the two A/Cs quit in blistering 100-plus temps. In both situations, mobile tech Luis Pons from Bowling Green, Kentucky, bailed us out. Had a minor issue with the front slideout and extended warranty authorized repair at Camping World… The service staff was rude on the phone and told me three weeks before I could bring it in and leave it. Once it was there, they’d get back to me within 30 days with a diagnosis. Well, when I responded, I told her that it was June and half the camping/traveling season would be lost. She said, ‘Take it or leave it, that’s it.’… I hung up.”Called Happy Camper Mobile RV Service [based in Ham Lake, MN] and they booked me right away and solved the problem in an hour! Straightforward communication, conscientious care of all components, clean, efficient, and very professional. Since then they are the only folks that touch my motorhome! First-class service from honest and ethical pros… HIGHLY endorse these guys!”

Went to open the main slide and it wouldn’t budge. Motor would ‘grunt’ but no movement. It’s a cable system, so ??? This is the dealer of original purchase and service. Dropped off on Friday, and got a call that afternoon that the cable system was in a bind. Tech got it open and was going to adjust the cables and see if the motor was okay. Since they work on Saturday he might get it done then as they had a motor unit in stock if needed. Got a call Saturday afternoon that it was ready. After cable adjustment and some tests in and out, the motor was deemed good and all working fine. The total cost? $181. They have always treated me right and done good work. They recently built a large second service center to give them more room. Good people work there.”

This week was the latest. We are in Lebanon, MO (about an hour north of Springfield). I called Fastlane Roadside Assistance and they sent a mobile mechanic to our RV park site at 7 p.m. In half an hour he diagnosed the problem in the dark (our chassis A/C compressor seized up and caused the serpentine belt to shred). Next day he ordered the compressor (I carry a spare belt) and returned that evening at 6 p.m. and completed the repair by 10 p.m. But there was a blown inline glass fuse inside the dash that we could not find. He returned the next day and we found it lying behind the fuse panel on the floor—no charge for this last visit. Top notch service.”

It was our good fortune to end up at Willard’s. Turns out many in the company are RVers, and have years of experience working on all types of RVs, and understand our full-time lifestyle. They hooked us up with water and electric for the week we were there. I have a background in auto mechanical service industries and I was impressed with their professionalism, cohesiveness, and the knowledge of their staff. Boy, did they! They put us in touch with Kennett Equipment Services, and we scheduled an on-site visit for the same day. Got a call when the tech was expected. Troy Kennett showed up, I showed him the problem. He crawled under and went to work. He explained (and showed me) that during assembly, the gasket between the grey water tank and gate valve got folded over and obviously wasn’t sealing. He went to his truck, pulled out a tub of Vaseline and started massaging the gasket. After about five minutes of massaging he went back under and using both legs and arms wrestled the seal back into place. He left the coroplast underbelly open and said to leave it opened until we got to our next destination in Vermont. He said the few days and the drive to Vermont would help dry things out. He left us with several strips of 4″ wide tape to seal the bottom back up. All in all, it took Troy a couple of hours of work. He gave us a very reasonable invoice and was able to accept my credit card right there. The RV hasn’t leaked since. I can’t speak highly enough of Troy Kennett—the man knows trailers. His wife does all the scheduling and can be reached at (802) 771-7024. They service all of central NH and this is their website. Even though this was a warranty issue, the cost was so reasonable, I’m not going to even bother fighting.”

Approaching an exit we pulled off the highway to a safe, nearby place. My husband found a failed serpentine belt that drives the engine cooling water pump and fan. Hoping it could be repaired without being towed, we first called a diesel repair shop. Unable to help us, he said he would call a buddy who could fix it where we were. Isaac called immediately and came out to assess the situation. Although it took most of the day to find the needed belt (finally located in Tulsa, 109 miles away), he and his diesel mechanic partner replaced the belt and within the hour we were on our way. Their service department did some warranty work including fiberglass repair in only two days. As for Forest River, customer service was excellent. Original kitchen faucet broke. I replaced it myself and they sent me a check. Had wrong size spare tire on back, sent them a picture, and they reimbursed me for correct size tire I purchased. I know there are many horror stories about manufacturers, sales and service. But my experience with Gib’s RV and Forest River has been very positive.”

Their appointments and time estimates are accurate. The appointment was for bringing in the unit one day. • Tom D. does most of his own RV work but needed body work done. He reports, “We bought our 1-year old used Class A in 2013, and I have performed every repair and most service other than the chassis, which I’ve trusted to Freightliner and/or Cummins. Recently had an exciting ‘off-road’ experience that resulted in significant lower front and rear cap fiberglass damage and damage to a few compartment doors. I chose to take it to Oregon Motorcoach Center (OMC) in Eugene, and despite how busy they are they were able to estimate and ultimately work on the bodywork and paint, as well as doing a complete mechanical inspection, annual services and repairing a damaged slide seal. Top-notch work, excellent communication and an experienced, passionate team made it easier to spend the tens of thousands it ultimately cost to complete all of the repairs. Highly recommended!”

  • From Dale L: “While traveling in Eastern Oregon northbound on I 84, we had an inside tire blow on the rear driver side dual. We thought we were doomed for 3 or 4 hours until Cruise America contacted and got a contract tire service company to come to our rescue. The Cruise America emergency number lady advised us that we could safely drive 50 miles at 50 mph or less to find a tire shop. Plus, she gave us a few suggestions for tire repair shops within the 60-mile range. With confidence, we continued our northbound journey on I 84 knowing we would find a tire repair shop very soon. To our surprise, we only traveled a couple miles to the next exit and there was a huge sign for PJ’s Tire Service. PJs Tire Service is a converted grain storage elevator sitting in the middle of absolute “nowhereville”. But to us at the time it was an oasis in the middle of the Eastern Oregon farm world. We pulled in, asked if they could change the inside dual for us and we were back on the road in 45 minutes for $75. So, fellow RVers, if you have tire trouble on I 84 in Eastern Oregon within 50 miles of Exit 198, you have PJ’s Tire Service to save your day. If you happen by there, please tell them that their exemplary service to a ‘doomed’ RVer was a very welcome relief.”

  • Teresa S. mentions that some of the issues with RVs can be operator error. “Just purchased a new 2023 Holiday Rambler Nautica 35MS from a dealer, RV Country in Coburg, Oregon. It had a few things wrong with it and they were pointed out and fixed before I picked it up. I had a few very minor problems after our first trip with the coach and some of them turned out to be just operator errors. The service tech on the coach has been great and walked me through, over the phone, where to find the switch to turn on the inverter. I found the outside ones but not the inside ones. Even the owner’s manual didn’t explain that one as to exactly how to find it, as it is on a display that has a button to scroll through options. Overall, I would recommend Coburg RV Country, as I wasn’t highly pressured to buy the coach, I knew I wanted it as soon as I saw it, and the price was reduced due to being last year’s model.”

Called Tiffin with dash codes and they verified the DEF sensor has failed. Made an appointment at Harrisburg (PA) Cummins, 280 miles from our home, for a Tuesday. We arrived Monday at around 3:00 in the afternoon. They have 10 electric-only hook-ups and were backed up in a space. OK to stay overnight. Seven o’clock on Tuesday, the tech came out to read the codes and get in contact with Tiffin. Waited in waiting room, which was clean, had coffee, water, and TV with comfortable sofas and chairs. At about 11:00 a.m., a tech came into the waiting room and said they will have the new (series 7) DEF sensor at 10:30 tomorrow, Wednesday. The sensor arrived at 9:10 and coach was in the shop at 10:30. We went shopping and got back to Cummins at 2:00, and the coach was being backed into the space we were parked in. What a wonderful experience. They were polite, cordial, clean, and explained everything. Highly recommend Harrisburg Cummins.”

  • Neal S. and his spouse are avid travelers and, in their late 70s, recently bought their first camper. He wrote to us: “After much research and renting a couple of campers, we picked the Rockwood 2606WS as our perfect couples camper. We finally located one in March last year. Unfortunately, it was six hours away at Cedar City RV in Lebanon, TN. Since we had never owned a camper and I was hearing all the stories about issues with new campers and lack of support from dealers, we made plans with Cedar City RV to buy the camper, stay overnight at a local campground, and come back the next morning with a punch list they would address. The first night was an adventure. It was cold, we had very limited experience and, of course, there were issues with the camper. The next morning we were back at Cedar City RV, they addressed the problems, and we were on our way back to Wedowee, AL, shortly after lunch. It is now 12 months later. We have been on ten camping adventures. There have been a few issues. Cedar City RV has provided excellent support by either putting a technician on the phone with me or sending me parts to resolve the issue. Only once was a long return trip required, and that service was provided as promised in a week. We love our Rockwood and are looking forward to a two-month adventure to the National Parks this summer including Glacier. Cedar City RV says, ‘We Sell Fun!’ They do, and provide excellent support.”

Our dash A/C compressor froze and was intermittently moving and throwing sparks, causing us to smell something burning and immediately pull off the road and shut down. Coach-Net/Spartan RV Chassis roadside assistance dispatched Dad’s to tow us because the coach could not be driven safely. The driver was extremely careful, wrapping everything that might rub against the RV with rags and taping them in place. He removed the generator exhaust to avoid damaging it while towing. Lastly, he removed the decorative duster/mudguard from the back to keep it from dragging. Once the RV reached Lee-Smith in Chattanooga (no one closer agreed to repair it), the driver reinstalled the tailpipe and duster/mudguard. I was shocked by how superior to other tow services Dad’s is.

We will look at it.’ I explained the steps I had taken and they went from there. It was just a bad connection that I hadn’t found. We were driving out 30 min. after arriving, with the repair completed. The service manager, Dave W., an RVer himself, said that he had problems on the road before and understood the need for quick service in that situation. He said most of the time, it was a quick fix, and all of the big jobs in the shop were going to be there sometimes for weeks, and he fit the small traveler jobs in between. The attitude was refreshing, and he deserves kudos and referrals. It saved us several days on our trip, and lots of schedule changes.”

They removed the spare and exchanged the tires, re-balanced, and put the tire back on the trailer. Checked the pressure in all the tires and coated them with ‘shine’. I asked the young man at the register for a bill and he said Discount Tire has a ‘no-charge policy’ for fixing flats. All of the men got $20 for lunch and my many thanks.”

  • Jack P. is very happy with this dealer: “We are from Seattle and drive a Winnebago View, now a decade old. When it was 3-4 years old we smelled propane one morning, in the mountains in central Ariz., and called a dealer in the Phoenix area. He said to bring it in immediately and not use it other than to bring it in. Did so, and he took it in immediately (prompt ‘service’) and did a drop test to confirm it was leaking, then found a ‘leak in the main valve on the propane tank.’ Sounded reasonable, except I later learned from the tank manufacturer that they had never had that specific valve fail, EVER. Nonetheless, the repair facility replaced the valve, as well as a few other parts damaged when they set the rig on fire. Once home, I discussed this with the dealer from whom I bought the RV, because I still needed to replace the wood paneling in the chimney and the melted electrical wires around the fire. He was appalled at the ‘service’ and consequences, and reimbursed me, one of his customers, at his suggestion, for the cost of the poor service received in Phoenix. I have had other work done at this facility since, but not in the last 4-5 years (we moved). They deserve recognition on RV Travel’s ‘good service/bad service’ list—Poulsbo RV in Kent.”

On our way to Casper, Wyoming, we contacted Sonny’s RV to see if they could take a look, and maybe schedule us during our month-long stay. It would mean packing up our 44′ fifth wheel after having set up in the campground and heading to the shop for an indeterminate amount of time, but … it’s a slide and had to be fixed.”We pulled in at 10 a.m. and a tech immediately took a look and they brought us immediately into the shop. Unfortunately, a new motor wasn’t the cause, and I opted to keep it (they offered to put the old one back in, but it had other issues), and required more investigation. We checked into a hotel for the night, and they had us good to go by noon the next day. It wasn’t cheap, a pretty high labor rate, but we didn’t have to go in and out of a campground and they got the job done. After three days of Harvest Hosts, where we didn’t open that slide, I am glad to be able to walk the side of my bed again. The office staff was super friendly, and the tech was a straight shooter.”

Thank you, Nanci! This is wonderful! It is soooo much better than what I sent you. 🙂 Thank you for all the work adding the comments, organizing by state, etc., required.

If it isn’t much trouble, please add that Les Glenn is certified to work on Cummins engines (he once was their “pro from Dover” who traveled and fixed things local Cummins shops couldn’t diagnose and fix), and Freightliner and Spartan RV chassis. I wouldn’t want someone with a towable problem to call Les thinking he could help. Thanks again for all the augmentation to the little that I sent you. 🙂

This is awesome. It should be every RV Center’s/Dealer, etc.’s goal to get on the “Gold List” as I’ll call it. I can see this going further into a printed form to carry on trips as a valuable resource! And the only way to stay on the list is to provide excellence in customer service!

Greetings. It looks like there needs to be a listing for Kansas, and the Excel Service Center in Smith Center Kansas is the answer. They are located at 627 US-36, Smith Center, KS phone 785.686.3080.

When Petersen Industries, maker of Excel RVs, closed in 2015, employees of this top notch manufacturer kept the service center open. They are the the absolute best and service all makes and models of RVs. Existing Excel RVs owners US-wide continue to drive to them for thorough and excellent repairs or servicing.

They even went an hour out of their way to pick up a freight package that had been sent from the manufacturer because it wouldn’t get to them in time before our departure. Excellent service!

Great mechanical service work for Sprinter Class B and C motorhomes in Tucson at Sprinter of Tucson, 5210 S. Julian Dr., Tucson, AZ 85706; (520) 901-5009. We had periodic maintenance on our Class C done very quickly at their shop last month, despite a lot full of waiting Amazon vans. Interestingly, the M-B dealer in Tucson does not service Sprinters and sends all Sprinter owners to Sprinters of Tucson!

You can add Noteboom RV in Harrisburg, SD to your list. Exceptional customer service before, during, and after the sale. Our brand new Alliance RV died in front of our house and they towed it to their shop and fixed it. That was in 2021 and they’ve been great to work with.

Recently I used the RV Doctor

RV DOCTOR (rvdrdallas.com)

I used them for some extended warranty work in repairing a full wall slide (FWS) and a collision mitigation device (CMD). They were on site quickly, disassembled the dash repaired the CMD, and reassembled the dash. Then on to the FWS where they diagnosed the control board as being bad, ordered the part, replaced the part, and reprogrammed it. The best part was they did all the dealing with the warranty company and kept me advised. Great company!

I WOULD NOT recommend to do any business with Bish’s RV. I have family that used to use only Bish’s until this last 3-4 years. They had problems with repairs and WOULD NOT back their extended warranty. The tow hauler was brought in under the warranty that was newly purchased. Shop checked out and ordered parts while keeping their trailer for 6 weeks. The parts took forever to come in and when they did Bish’s said it wasn’t covered under the warranty.
I saw the Bish’s article mentioned and had to give my 2 cents on this bad business. I have a few other Bish stories too.

Please add RVMD. 2665 49th Street, Vero Beach, Florida. I just had Brian Freeze replace a leveler on my MH and he did it quicker and for much less than the “big” dealerships charged me when they did one.

I highly recommend Sandy’s West RV Center, 1451 W Miracle Mile, Tucson, AZ 85705. Everyone in the shop is highly trained (and they’ve all been there a long time). They stock high quality parts and take as much time as needed to explain a situation. More than once they actually told me how to fix something myself and steered me away from high priced items I didn’t need while keeping me on a common sense path that truly met our needs. They even took a call from me after hours once while I was working through an issue on our trailer. I just can’t say enough good about this shop.

Thank you, Nanci! 🙂 It just occurred to me that perhaps a date should be attached to each recommended shop or mobile tech. The date would be the year that the recommendation was made, giving users an idea of how dated the materials might be. Or were you planning to let listings fall into an archive if later referrals failed to occur?

Gary Osburn
Canyon Lake, Tx
(210) 859-6185

Gary is an RVIA certified RV master tech who has lived on a motorhome for many years, so he knows from personal experience what RVers experience. He has done several repairs for us, all at reasonable cost. He will also travel a considerable distance at a reasonable mileage charge.

Gary replaced our slide toppers, repaired the patio awning, and has done plumbing and electrical work as well. He is practical and creative (when called for), saving me considerable money. We have been using him since 2016 and still do. He has also taught me how to do a number of repairs myself.

I would like to highly recommend Jamie Pelton of Big’s RV Service. Jamie is a mobile tech who my husband and I met while both he and my husband were in school at the NRVTA (Jamie as a tech and Tom, my husband, as an inspector). Four months after we met in school in Texas, we were at a campground in Pine Island, FL when who should pull in than Jamie and his wife Cindy! We hired Jamie to install several lithium batteries, soft starts for our AC and asked him for help on a few minor other things. Jamie was excellent in explaining everything and testing that the new batteries and inverter were working well before we moved on.

These guys are honest, fair, and very approachable. I have learned a *lot* from them, and have never been disappointed with the results of their labors. (And never been surprised by the final bill, either.)

I’ve been using Roger’s for over 12 years. When the moved 45 miles away I continued to go there because of the good service. Their shop is full service with quick turn around. I really like how they communicate. Always up front with what’s needed and cost. They will notify me if they find anything else that might be needed. Not like the dealer I bought the Trailer from who kept it for weeks and not be upfront with the issues.

Maybe a correction to Roger’s RV Service in Peoria, AZ (which I think I recommended) the weblink doesn’t work (for me, anyway), I keep getting a “Not Secure” error, though may be just me. Another way to contact Roger is on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100066784268107

Also, a suggestion, it might be helpful that when the list has additions, they’re put at the top so they’ll be easily seen, at least until it’s updated again and then they can be sorted. Or alternatively, a list of new ones is at the top, with the particulars sorted below, then a new list when updated, etc. etc….😊

Thanks, Chris. (And you know I’m from the Pacific Northwest when I know how to pronounce the first word in your email address.🤣) When I put the link to Roger’s RV Service’s website on the list it didn’t give me any flak. It did this time, so I changed the link to their Facebook page. And thank you for the suggestions for adding new service centers. (I think about it every time I add more, actually.) But I figure that folks will see the new ones added in Nanci’s column each week, so didn’t think it was necessary to separate them out in the list itself each time. Also, if someone is looking for a service center in a particular state, they can just scroll to that state and see what’s listed. I had also thought about adding the date they’re inserted on the list, but that idea got vetoed by the powers that be. The above explanations don’t mean that we won’t change/update the procedure in the future, however. Thanks again.👍 Have a good afternoon/evening. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

Hi again, Chris. If you were the one who recommended Roger’s RV Service, would you like to add a comment/recommendation that I can include under the listing? I see there’s no comment there. I just went back to when it was first added to the list (when it was first started), and there was no specific recommendation other than the name and location that was supplied to me for the list. You don’t have to, but I just thought it would be nice for the readers to see why it was recommended. Thanks! Take care. 😀 –Diane

Sure. “We needed the bearings packed on our 5th Wheel in March of 2023 before our 1200+ mile journey from Phoenix to Washington state. I called a nearby trailer repair facility and was given a ridiculous price. I found Roger’s RV Service on Google, was given a fair price for the work, and we made an appointment. Work was done in a timely fashion and Roger was friendly and personable, and gave us good advice about our 30-year old Holiday Rambler. Would definitely use him again!”

We have been making annual appointments with Tishomingo RV Repair service center for about 5 years. Besides the awesome techs, the best thing about this place is the accommodations for full timers. They have several full hookup sites in their lot, so you can arrive the day before your appointment and have hookups. They typically get you in on the day of your appointment. If the work requires more than one day, you can stay the night in their bays. Their rates are significantly cheaper than a dealer. Depending on the work, you may need to have the parts shipped ahead of time. They are located at 1340 MS-25, Tishomingo, MS, phone – 662-443-2183.

I had problems with a slide out so took to independent repair shop. The fix was done by the owner and lasted only a year. So went back and the owners son looked at it and said it was fixed wrong (I said your dad fixed it the last time) but he just went through a list of what needed to be done (over $2k!) I then took it to an rv dealer in Sioux Falls, Schaaps RV travel Land. And they actually fixed it to where it’s better than new for half the price of the independent shop. Now we no longer have to say a prayer when we run our slide in or out.

We suffered extensive wind damage to our Gulfstream 189dd camper – including an 8-inch tree branch through the roof and two broken exit windows – just three weeks before we were to depart on an extended road trip. Rick shuffled his workload around to fit us in and get everything back to better-than-new before our trip. Total roof replacement, windows, shades, valences, ceiling panel – the list goes on.
