Plan a visit to one of these amazing 2025 air shows

OK, RVers, ready for some high‑octane thrills? An air show just may be your answer.

You’re not too late! There are plenty of air shows scheduled for the last half of 2025. Check out a few of them here and then plan an RV trip around an air show soon.

Air shows

Did you know that some air shows allow RVers to park on site? It’s true, and you’ll get a front row seat for all of the action, too! But wait! There are other benefits, as well.

• Community. RV campgrounds at major air shows often transform into tight‑knit aviation villages. Swap stories by the campfire, share traveling adventures, or join impromptu tailgate meetups. You’ll be among fellow enthusiasts who appreciate both the open road and the open skies.

• Front‑row access. On-site camping means you can snag prime viewing spots and watch morning practice flights before the crowds arrive.

• Learning and networking. You’re sure to see jaw‑dropping aerobatics. But there’s so much more. Many air shows host workshops, displays, and meet‑and‑greets with pilots, engineers, and museum curators. Whether you’re into warbirds or ultralights, these events are living classrooms for every aviation aficionado or curiosity seeker.

2025 events

Here are some of the best air shows scheduled for the second half of 2025. There’s still time to plug one or more of these air shows into your existing travel adventure plans.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 21–27, 2025)

The Experimental Aircraft Association’s flagship event returns to Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 21–27, 2025.

RVers can camp right on the flight line at Camp Scholler. The camp offers drive‑in sites for rigs of all sizes. It also has a limited number of water and electric hookups and a designated 24‑hour generator area. On‑site amenities include grocery stores, shower facilities, RV pumping stations, and free public Wi‑Fi.

Why go: This event is billed as the world’s largest gathering of aviators. (2024’s attendance was an incredible 686,000!) The Oshkosh air show features daily headliners, along with hands‑on workshops for visitors. You will also see more than 10,000 aircraft on display.

Chicago Air and Water Show (Aug. 16–17, 2025)

Chicago’s free two‑day spectacle along Lake Michigan will fill the skies Aug. 16–17 (with rehearsal flights on Aug. 15).

The show does not allow on‑site RV camping. However, RVers should consider Chicago Northwest KOA Holiday in Union, IL, or Adeline Jay Geo‑Karis Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, IL, which offers 241 Class A premium sites with electric hookups, showers, and sanitary facilities.

Why go: This iconic free show draws 1 million+ spectators to Lake Michigan’s shores for two full days. Showgoers will see military jet demos, observe parachute teams, and thrill at performers and their water stunts.

National Championship Air Races (Sept. 10–14, 2025)

The high‑speed pylon races blast off at Roswell Air Center in Roswell, NM, Sept. 10–14, 2025. The event site partners with American Dream Vacations to pre‑position RVs near the raceway. RVers can rent pre‑positioned, dry‑camp sites (no hookups) from Sept. 8–15. Potable‑water trucks and dump services will be on call for RVers’ convenience.

Nearby private RV parks include Red Barn RV Park (13 full‑hookup sites, laundry, showers); Trailer Village RV Park (66 full‑hookup sites with 30/50 AMP service); and Spring River RV Park (40 pull‑through sites, full hookups, Wi‑Fi, on‑site dog park).

Why go: High‑speed pylon racing pits WWII warbirds and modern jets head‑to‑head, making it “must‑see TV” in real life. The new Roswell venue amps up the amazing desert backdrop.

MCAS Miramar Air Show (Sept. 26–28, 2025)

San Diego’s premier military show lands at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Sept. 26–28. The MCAS air show is one of the largest military shows in the U.S.

While the base offers no on‑site camping, Mission Bay RV Resort sits just minutes away on leased tidelands. There are waterfront RV sites, full hookups, resort‑style amenities, and beach access.

Campland on the Bay provides additional waterfront camping with family‑friendly activities and facilities.

Military guests can also reserve at Admiral Baker RV and Picnic Park, which offers water, electric, sewer hookups, laundry, and showers for up to 30‑day stays.

Why go: Miramar highlights include the Blue Angels, F‑22 demos, and an epic Saturday “twilight” fireworks and pyrotechnics.

Wings Over Houston (Oct. 18–19, 2025)

CAF Wings Over Houston returns Oct. 18–19 at Ellington Airport. Plan to see all types of vintage warbirds soar overhead.

No RV parking is available on the field, but Space City RV Community—adjacent to Ellington Field—offers more than 200 pull‑through and back‑in spaces suitable for any size rig. For a traditional campground setting, Lake Conroe/Houston North KOA Holiday, about 35 miles north, features big‑rig‑friendly sites with 30/50 amp hookups, concrete patios, fire rings, and a heated pool.

For a state‑park stay, try Huntsville State Park’s full‑hookup campsites nestled around Lake Raven.

Why go: This Texas air show features the USAF Thunderbirds, Tora! Tora! Tora!, and B‑29 icons.

You should go!

These top-notch air shows await! Pack your binoculars because clear skies, roaring engines, and sky-high thrills await!

Thank you for listing and describing the various air shows, Gail! I especially appreciate you sharing RV park and campground information. Attended one? Yes, long, long ago (~1965) I attended a local air show at a Chattanooga, Tennessee suburb. It seems that Daddy was there to provide some sort of technical assistance; perhaps not. In any case, my whole family attended; all four of us. Years later (~15) my little brother began flying from that small airport as he gained various ratings on his way to becoming a private pilot. Have a great week and safe travels!
