Where I come from it’s taboo to ask other folks about certain topics. For example, my mom and dad never, ever revealed for whom they voted. It didn’t matter if the election was local, state, or national. I may have had what I felt was a good guess, but when asked to confirm my guess, neither parent would answer.
Monetary topics were similarly off-limits and I would never even think of asking someone today’s poll question face to face. What you paid for your RV is completely your business. Not mine.
How would you react if someone in the campground walked up and asked how much you paid for your rig? Would you tell them?
I think I’m safe in inquiring about money in this case because your response will be totally anonymous. If you choose to add detailed information in the comments section, that’s up to you.
So, folks, chime in! What did you pay for your current RV? And if you can’t remember, well, try…

We bought our ’01 32+’ CrossRoads nine years ago from the original owners. (They paid just under $30k.) It came attached to a Hensley Arrow, and accompanied by a Honda e2000i generator, towels, bedding, ‘Paddy-O’ 9×12 outside mat, and miscellaneous spare parts. Everything for the enormous amount of $5k.
$10k-$20K for the newest one (single axle no-slide 21′) in early 2022. Not quite $40K in 2017 for the much larger (34′ multiple slides) TT we use as a seasonal stationary 2nd home.
We bought our 2002 Newmar in 2015 for $42,000. We upgraded to full-body paint this year and after seeing some of the newer MHs, I’m so glad we bought used. We don’t have the fancy bells and whistles, but we have all we need for good travel experiences.
I converted Canadian dollars to US, which dropped me down a category.
Used needing a substantial amount of maintenance but beautiful. Retired without payments!
Our Class B was built for us, and our GSDs. I picked the vehicle and my wife designed the interior! Perfect, and no complaints.
You never stop paying. This was a trick question, right?
🤣🤣🤣 Perfect!!!
Gail, I was raised the same way…no discussing what I pay for things. When someone asks me…and they do…I will quote them the JD Power book range or for new, the MSRP, as those are public knowledge anyway. Avoids the awkwardness of telling them it’s none of their business, but gives them some information they are seeking.
Didn’t answer the poll question. 🙂
In 2016 bought a new 40′ fifth wheel msrp $90,000 I paid $54,000
We still have it today, it’s been great. not interested in buying any of the new stuff.
We saved about 28% on a brand new Imagine, in 2020, $30K.
Just as The Great Panic went into full swing, Dealers were struggling.
Then the run on RVs started. The 2021 version of our TT was selling for $42K.
Pre covid 2019 Forest River 263bhxl for 17,995. Dealer had advertised that they would match any offer. They had it priced at 19,995. They weren’t happy but did match it.
Just purchased an East2West Blackthorn 26RD 5th wheel. MSRP was $70K with options like theater seats, solar, etc. I didn’t pay close to MSRP.
Our costs were unique, as our current class-a rig was originally to be sold at my mom’s request. After clean-up we were low-balled and decided to purchase mom’s RV. The total cost was a whole house generator, with installation, at my mom’s house. The remaining costs was in rebuilding the complete brake system, major suspension work front & rear, complete fluid servicing. Black tank repair, all battery replace, with new converter, plus repairing dozens of other neglected systems and new tires. Total cost $18K to be road worthy again.
We have a 2000 Northwood Nash 5th wheel that we bought in 2008. We paid $6,000 for it.
We have a Nash 21-5 fifth wheel bought new in 2010 for around $25,000. Looks new today and has been fun!
$1500 for a 1965 24’ Airsteam in 2008. $7000 to remodel and have been living in her full-time since 2016.
I purchased my pre-owned 2010 Keystone Summerland this month for $9700. I plan to retire and live in “HOME-R” full time starting in November 2024. I am ready to hit the road and find myself again. 🙂
How exciting, Michael. Congratulations! Enjoy your new lifestyle and good luck in “finding yourself.”🤞 Take care. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
I couldn’t really remember but found a close category. $60K something I guess. The only thing I really remember is my first car, used ’60- VW was $500 and Dad’s new ’63 VW was $1650. Today that is walkin’ ’round money.
Downsized from a 24’ Jayco to a 14’ Sportsman. We love it! Everything we need, nothing we don’t. Handles, sets-up so easy! Best $7000 we’ve spent in a long time!
It depends on how the question is asked. We started with an old tent trailer, which we used for 14 years, selling it to buy a ‘98 Bounder which we enjoyed for 4 years. We sold that (for what we paid for it) to buy an ‘04 National with slides. Over the past 6 years, we’ve logged about 40K miles on her including a cross-continent trip, and plan to add another 12K soon. No significant expenses beyond normal maintenance and some upgrades to her suspension. We feel we’ve had our full money’s worth.
Thank you, Gail! 🙂 We have a 2022 Newmar New Aire that we spec’d and ordered. It put us in the 4% category. Downside is it didn’t come with a driver so both DW and I can while away the hours as the miles to some destination slip by. 🤔😯😉 Thanks again, have a great week, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
The survey question, as written, is meaningless.
At least two questions are needed. One for motorized RVs and one for non-motorized RVs
$200,000 for a trailer is very expensive, but it is at the bottom of the ladder for a new Class A
Where I come from, you don’t ask how much or even how much land someone owns, and I usually say “too much” or “why do you want to know?” They rarely have an intelligent answer. No one discussed who they voted for–what happened to secret ballot? Amazing how many people want to know how many acres I have. I can’t imagine why they would need to know.
I have 3.
I have 18+.🤣 Gorgeous, totally undeveloped mountain acreage with a river running through it. (Sounds like a movie, huh?😉) Just don’t get there nearly enough, unfortunately, but it’s nice to know it’s up there waiting for me. Have a good night, Matt. 😀 –Diane aka Mountain Mama at RVtravel.com
