Okay, friends, time to confess: When was the last time you ate at McDonald’s? Sitting down inside or going through the drive-through counts—we just want to know when you last chowed down on a Big Mac or a McCrispy.
We all know McDonald’s isn’t the healthiest option when it comes to a snack or meal choice, but it is tasty and affordable—not to mention it’s a quick, easy stop for those long travel days.
For us RVers especially, fast food can be a familiar comfort when you’re far from home or pulling into a town you’ve never been to before. It’s easy to find, the parking lots are usually RV-friendly, and sometimes you just need fries, a soda, and a bathroom that’s open.
Of course, not everyone is a fan. Some RVers pride themselves on skipping the drive-through entirely in favor of cooking their own meals or finding local diners with more character. And, hey, we admire that discipline! But we know it’s not for everyone.
So, what about you? Are you a once-a-year McDonald’s visitor, a road trip regular, or somewhere in between?
After you vote in today’s poll, feel free to leave a comment and share your guilty pleasure order. Thanks!

When McRibs were on the menu. I don’t even go for senior coffee, since the massive price increase.
It’s been more than a year, stopped for a quick meal and was shocked at the price for a small hamburger, chicken sandwich two small fries and a couple of shakes. If I would have just drove over to my favorite Mexican Restaurant about 3 miles away, I could have had leftovers for the next day and had leftovers for both me and the wife all for a couple of dollars more. Haven’t had any desire to go back again.
I voted “can’t remember”. It’s been years since I visited a McDonalds.
I’ve also noticed our local one is not near as busy as it was pre-covid.
the only fast food we do is chipotles, Chick-fil-A and Subway. My last McDonald’s was several years ago while traveling, the fish sandwich was over cooked, shrunken, rubbery and a very dark color, the fries were cold. We were a few miles down the road on the interstate and would have to spend more time than it was worth to go back. It wasn’t the first major disappointment with McDonalds but it was the last time for us. That was in 2019.
I like the breakfast sandwiches there but the local McDonalds near me has such poor service and is slow and has a manager that will not even talk to you when there is a problem. I have had her turn her back and walk away without saying a word when trying to get a mistake fixed, which is very often.
Given a choice I’ll always pick Burger King but in general I avoid them all.
Back in 1981, 19-yr old me worked at Micky-Ds for a week…….I quit and joined the USN! After seeing McDs from behind the counter, those week-old corn chips on the floorboard of the truck are more appealing! Those burgers and fries still taste exactly the same as they did 45 yrs ago.
My friend and I ate breakfast yesterday at McDonald’s before heading out in our RV.
All the fast food places have become ridiculously expensive. I just quit going.
My last lunch at Burger King (over 2 years ago) was $13. The manager said the mandatory increase in wages was the driving factor.
When I’m on the road I might stop for a cup of coffee and a large fry, but otherwise I don’t go there.
OTC laxatives less expensive and more convenient than eating at McDonalds!
My wife and I hit McDonalds to get lunch on the road on our last camping trip. Normally we would pull over and eat in the trailer but we got off later than hoped so we grabbed lunch and ate on the way. Before that it had been well over a year since we ate there.
I broke my 5+ year hiatus from McDonald’s last week when dear hubby wanted to stop. After eating our fish sandwiches, both of us wished we didn’t stop.
Fish sandwiches have to be the worst thing on the menu. Barf.
The last place I go, if there is absolutely no alternative.
The last time I went on their property was September3, 2015. It was the day before my quadruple heart bypass surgery.
If there is a In-N-Out or Culvers in the same area, what’s the point?
That’s probably true, George. However, some states don’t have those options (yet). Have a good evening/night. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Most fast food places have gone downhill. I used to enjoy Arby’s, but the quality of the meat is not what it used to be. Dry and no flavor. Burger King (?) everything smells the same (like grease) and Wendy’s in our area quit serving breakfast.
McDonald’s has wonderful bathrooms. I guess I have grown too old to enjoy the “food”.
Thank you for the question, RV Travel. When I travel in the car, my favorite lunch is the largest number/order of Chicken McNuggets. I can easily eat them and drive. It has been at least 3 or 4 years since I took such a road trip. Have a great weekend and safe travels!
1980s is probably the last time I’ve ever ate at any fast-food place like McDonald’s.
Only stop for Senior Citizen coffee and clean bathrooms while traveling. As mentioned, Culvers has it beat by far in the food department.
Never do Mexican restaurants unless one needs a laxative. So we don’t. One big advantage to RV travel is having your own refrigerator and kitchen. Sandwiches are easy choices on travel days.
