Join Josh the RV Nerd, one of our readers’ favorite RV YouTube channel hosts, for a tour of the 2024 Cougar 2400RE 5th wheel. Josh says this just might be the perfect 5th wheel for couples looking to hit the road in comfort.
Keystone RV has made some nice changes in the 2024 model. Not only is it lighter and less expensive, but it managed to keep the important stuff while eliminating some unnecessary fluff from previous years’ models.
Josh loves the little twists and surprises Keystone included in this fifth wheel, such as the useful flip-up table/laptop stand by the theater seating that turned useless space into functional space. The boot bench with coat and shoe storage by the front door is another great example of making use of otherwise wasted space.
I love the HUGE amount of storage in the kitchen, including an enormous pantry. A sink cover for extra counter space would have been nice, but you will have to have one made yourself.
There’s a nice, large bathroom. Since the shower pan is flush with the floor it provides decent headspace.
The bedroom features an impressive amount of storage including under the bed, hanging closets, and shoe storage.

What’s not to like?
Well, for one thing, the name. True story: I have a friend who found an outstanding deal on a Cougar fifth wheel, but she said she just could not bring herself to buy it and instead went for another brand. When I asked her why, she said, “As an older single woman, there is no way I am going down the highway in anything with the word ‘Cougar’ splashed across it.”
Fair enough. (I hate that term, too.)
Beyond that, there are no washer/dryer hookups, so if that is important to you, this might not be the best choice.
Also, Josh says lower deck travel access is a bit of a problem, meaning you can get to the kitchen and bathroom easily with the slide in, but the refrigerator not so much. It can, however, be done with the “butt scoot boogie” as Josh demonstrates at point 14:00.
The kitchen prep space is a bit sparse, although you can use the flip-up table and dining table to help augment it.
Something that makes no sense is the kitchen and bathroom have separate drainpipes, meaning you have to dump them separately. HUH? Josh does say it is possible Keystone will change this as he was looking at an early prototype of the Cougar 2400RE. Let’s hope so!
Keep in mind that the 5th wheel in the video is part of Cougar’s “sport series,” meaning that while they are priced lower than other models, you will not have a lot of customization options. But if you like what you see, no problem.
You should also have at least a 3/4-ton truck to pull this rig.

Nice size rig. I didn’t even see any wood shavings or metal drill curls lying around (like you see in MANY new rigs where the factory couldn’t even sweep or vacuum up after themselves). There seems to be a ‘fold’ at the end of slide on the flooring. Bunched up flooring? Not a fan of the farm sink at all. I need a double sink for washing dishes. The light colored interior is a big plus. Our 10 year old trailer is just, well, dark. Twin sewer dumps? C’mon. I can maybe see that on a 40′ 5er, but not on something this small (relatively speaking).
I purchased a new 2022 Keystone Cougar in January 2023. My TT is a piece of junk. Nothing but problems resulting in cancelled camping trips. In August 2023 I was told I need a new roof. Keystone is arguing about replacing the roof under warranty. NEVER buy a Keystone RV.
