Do you RV with one or more cats? Then you need to check out the video above from Jackie and Joseph, the team from RVing with Pets, who travel in their Class A motorhome with a dog and four (count ’em) cats. In it, they show how to build an RV catio (patio for cats, catio, get it?), so that your feline friends can enjoy the great outdoor spaces you RV to, just like the rest of the family.
Before they started RVing full time, the couple had a HUGE catio at their sticks-and-bricks home and the cats LOVED it. They did not want to take that away from them on the road, so they had to come up with a viable solution. The problem was, all the solutions they found online were either super expensive, super complicated, or both.
So they created a better way that is quick and easy to put up and take down. It starts with a folding catio bought on Amazon.
This system will work on any RV, trailer, or motorhome that has a rail, such as an awning rail, and most do.
First, they show how to assemble the commercially purchased catio. They then used a foam board, cut to the size of the back of the catio, to provide a safe access point between the RV’s window and outside catio, and also to protect the side of the coach. Watch the video to see the simple way this goes together.
Then it comes time to mount it all using chain link fence support bars you can pick up at almost any hardware store. The video will show you how to modify and use these to simply hang the catio cage on your RV’s rails. A few bungee cords secure the bottom and your cats are ready to play outdoors. Brilliant!
The video closes with a demonstration of just how easy it is to disassemble the catio before your next travel day.

Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 Very interesting idea. Nicely inventive to apply it to an RV too. 🙂 We have neither cats nor a cat patio in our RV or sticks-and-bricks. Looks interesting and could be an excellent conversation starter in campgrounds (hint, hint single male RVers 🙂 ). Thanks again, have a great weekend, and safe travels! 🙂
