About a year ago we featured another video by President Chay in which he and his brother built their first microcamper. They’ve built a few others since then, but the problem was that all their campers could only sleep one person. No more! The brothers put their skills to work and designed a unique two-story microcamper that can comfortably sleep them both. We get a tour and an overview of the building process in the video below.
The brothers started with a small trailer they bought on Facebook Marketplace for a mere $200. It looked rough, but they stripped it down to its 8-foot frame and got to work. They were excited that the trailer was just big enough to fit a full-sized bed inside.
They wanted to keep everything lightweight so they started with a wood frame. Next, they installed a simple electrical system and a small air conditioner. They framed out a few windows and then insulated everything with spray foam.
After trimming the foam, they installed the foam roof and camper sides. To make it all waterproof they used a technique called “poor man’s fiberglass,” using fabric and glue. Watch the video to see this in action. They followed up with paint.
They recycled school bus windows for their camper, which function perfectly for their needs.
Time was running out as they had already booked their first campsite. They worked on finishing off the interior, including a vent so that the single air conditioner would cool both stories, and installing carpeting.
They then took the camper on its maiden journey. Aside from a flat tire, it fared well. Honestly, they should have replaced the tires when they got the old trailer, but they got the job done. The camper is so light that they did not even need a jack—they simply lifted the trailer and put on the new tire!
What do you think of the brother’s unusual camper? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Why would RVtravel post a video of 2 idiots breaking the law, i.e. riding in the camper. Also how fast were they going to shred the tires? Was the camper registered? The idiots put themselves and others on the road at risk of injury.
Great video, great concept!
What basic camping is all about!
Thank you, Cheri! 🙂 This video is a teeter-totter. Great job with the build, but awful job riding inside while being towed. Incredible work to make it so light that need no jack to change tires, but awful job to leave tires with sidewall cracks in the first place. Amazing job to make so much from the old trailer frame, but awful job to fail to include tail lights with brake lights and turn signals. All things considered, the build and their revealed creativity was awesome! 🙂 They just need a responsible adult to put guardrails on their precociousness. 🙂 Thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, safe stays! 🙂
Neal, we were young – once. Responsible adults took the fun out of everything. 🙂 Like when I was 14 or so and took an old engine powered reel mower and put it on the back of my brother’s tricycle. It was fun for about two blocks. The start of an engineering career. 🙂 I heard about these brothers that took sheets and glue and put it on a frame with a lawnmower engine and thought that they could fly! How nuts was that? Ha! I swear that I was the smartest between the ages of fourteen and responsibility. Old trailer, old tires, you are right, but, hey, they learned. Energy and a dream. They may become the next Roger Marble one day.
Very true, KellyR! 🙂 And they certainly are inventive, inquisitive, and energetic. 🙂 Yes, long ago and far away, we were young. 🤔😯😉 Yep, Roger, too, will need a successor one day, as will we. 🙂 Thanks, KellyR, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
