Hello! Hola! Bonjour! Ciao! ä½ å¥½! Hallo! It’s been another busy week for us here on your favorite website (that’s RVtravel.com, of course). We’re constantly trying to improve things on the back end to make sure your experience on the site is seamless. We’re doing some editing as to what content we post, so if you enjoy reading a particular article, or want to see more articles like it, leave us a comment and tell us! We sincerely value your feedback.
Before I jump into what we learned about you last week, here’s a book recommendation where I think you might learn a little something: I’m about halfway through “Unbroken,” by Laura Hillenbrand, which was recommended to me by Diane (our managing editor) and Chuck. If you have an interest in WWII or biographies, I highly recommend this one. Check it out here. It’s a fascinating page-turner.
There were some pretty hilarious comments on last Saturday’s poll (click through to read them). We asked if you would bend over to pick up a dime, and, well, the overwhelming response (92 percent) was yes, you would. A small 6 percent of you said you sometimes would, and a tied 1 percent said you rarely would, or you would not. A few commenters (here’s lookin’ at you Eddie, Jane and Thomas) said they would drop other coins or bills intentionally to make bending over to pick up the dime worth it. Reader Dave Dobesh left an interesting comment though. He writes, “My brother actually did an experiment and determined with the time it takes to pick up a penny, you are making $14 per hour. Picking up a dime, you would be making 10 times that or $140 per hour.” Fascinating! See, you learned something new here today, folks. Thanks, Dave (and brother).
Score! We’ve been getting tons (I mean, some days 3,000!) votes on our RV Daily Tips Newsletter polls. If you’re not signed up for that newsletter, I highly recommend doing so here. Thank you for voting! Monday’s poll taught us that 38 percent of you don’t watch football at all, but for another 14 percent of you, you enjoy watching both college and professional football equally. Exactly a quarter of you (which was the majority for this poll), prefer college over professional football, but another 23 percent of you prefer professional. As for me, well, let’s just say that’s the most I’ve talked about football in a long time…
According to Tuesday’s poll, most of you, 43 percent, have never taken an ocean cruise. That being said though, 37 percent of you have been on more than one ocean cruise, and 20 percent have been on just one. Many of you commented that your “cruises” have been through the Navy. That counts!…I think? Sort of?
For the half of you who don’t watch Netflix, you’re missing out! No, just kidding. You’re probably outside around the campfire like we all should be…but…but… On Wednesday we wanted to know if you or a household member have a Netflix account. More than a quarter of you, 27 percent, say you have your own account, 16 percent of you use a household member’s account, and 8 percent of you use the account of someone outside of your household. Tell me in the comments what you’ve recently watched and loved.
Another exact 50 percent vote! Exactly half of you carry a pocket knife with you at all times and 13 percent of you sometimes do. A small 14 percent of you rarely carry one, and a quarter of you never do. This was Thursday’s question. Also, we designed the question for men only, but as many of you mentioned, women carry pocket knives too! Myself included!
And last but not least, on Friday we asked if you have a current passport. Most of you, 74 percent, do. Thirteen percent of you have an expired passport, and another 13 percent of you have never had a passport.
Alrighty, friends, that’s all for this week. Thanks for teaching us some interesting things. And as I mentioned above, if you like reading specific articles or columns (like this one!), or want to see more or less of specific topics, let us know in the comments. We appreciate your feedback (and your votes too).
I do like the daily polls on here! And I like reading the comments, too! We don’t have Netflix, but we recently were on our fall trip and I went to my son’s house to do laundry (what a switch!) and watched Jeff Dunham’s newest show that was filmed in my home town of Dallas!
River and almost anything with Nicola Walker in on Netflix.
RE: Unbroken. Read it. Wonderful book and a testimony to the human spirit. Since I am a Vietnam Combat Veteran and my father a WWII Marine who went ashore in the second wave on Okinawa, I have great interest in stories such as this one and have become something of a WWII history buff. If you liked this one be sure to read Flag of Our Fathers and Flyboys too. There are many great books out there about the heroes of WWII. Thanks to all who have served!
Thanks for the suggestions, Bob! I’m flying through Unbroken and am loving it more and more every page. I’ll add Flag of our Fathers and Flyboys to my list. Thank you for your service! –Emily, RVtravel.com
As for the passport question, we were going through a box of old photos last week and found our old, expired passports. Also in the box was the passport I had to get for my oldest son when he was 5 years old when I got custody of him when I was stationed at Torrejon AB, Madrid, Spain in 1976. He died in 1994 so this was a wonderful look-back-in-time memory.
Midsomer Murders, Father Brown Mysteries and of course the British Baking Show are tops on our Netflix viewing.
The first two are also available on Amazon Prime – don’t know about the third
Try Broadchurch, too.
Should I even admit how much I love the British Baking Show…? 🙂 –Emily, RVtravel.com
