What we learned about you last week (May 18-24)

By Emily Woodbury

I’m back! Did you miss me last week? (Correct answer: Yes.) I was off exploring Austin and San Antonio, with a short detour through the Texas Hill Country. Ya know, Texas is a lot prettier (and greener!) than I thought (and I’m only saying that because I come from the magnificent wonderland we call the Pacific Northwest). And boy! If you enjoy wine tasting, that’s the place to be! Forget Napa – there are dozens of wineries in a short stretch between Austin and Fredericksburg. Wine tasting and BBQ? Maybe not the most sophisticated gourmet combination, but hey, it works!

Okay, now what did I miss?

Last Saturday we asked you if you slept in your RV last night, and if so, where? I won’t go through all the answers here (Chuck got a little carried away) but the majority of you, which was 38 percent, said you stayed in an independently owned RV park, while 19 percent of you stayed in a public campground. A handful of you stayed on someone’s private property, and some of you stayed at a KOA. You can see all the results here.

“This !@%$#! bedding isn’t !@%$#! cooperating!” Sound familiar? Yup, I know the feeling. Monday’s poll question asked, “How easy is it to change the bedding in your RV?” A very lucky 34 percent of you said it’s just as easy as changing your bed at home, while a suffering 15 percent of you said it’s very challenging, and no fun at all. The majority of you, 51 percent, say it’s more difficult than at home but manageable. (I must say, that was one of our most boring poll questions. Jeesh.)

Fun fact! Did you know the word “swims” looks the same backward and upside down? Neat, huh? On Tuesday we asked you how often you use the pool at an RV park (or wherever you’re staying with a pool) and almost half of you, 48 percent, said “never” – *raises hand*. About a third of you said you hardly ever use the pool, 2 percent use it maybe once a month, 11 percent of you use it a few times per week, and 4 percent of you, which was exactly 100 votes, use it every day.

Our poll on Wednesday was a little bit different. We asked you to pick a location for a vacation home. I’m not too surprised that most of you, 47 percent, selected a mountain cabin (we do like our forests, don’t we?), but 41 percent of you would love to have a beach house as a vacation home. A small 11 percent of you would like a farmhouse in the country, and only 1 percent of you (which was 19 votes) would like a city loft.

I was soooo happy to see the results of Thursday’s poll. I was worried I’d have to tell all of you to “go outside!” We asked: On average, how much time do you spend outdoors every day? While most of you, 47 percent, spend 2-3 hours outside every day, 27 percent of you say you spend between 4-6 hours outside, and a whole 9 percent of you spend more than 7 hours outside on a daily basis. Holy smokes! That’s amazing! Still, though, 20 percent of you spend an hour or less out there, and only 1 percent of you don’t spend any time outside at all. Does anyone have any fun outdoor plans for Memorial Day weekend? There is a lot going on!

OK, off to the races (in this case, time to go finish up that beloved Saturday newsletter of yours)! Enjoy your holiday weekend, don’t drink and drive, and see you again in a week. Oh, and plan a trip to Texas.
