Weekenders and short-tripping RVers should take a look at the 2026 Coachmen Chaparral Lite 218SE.
This fifth wheel measures just under 29 feet in length and can be towed with a half-ton truck. Could it be the right camper for you? Let’s find out.
Starting with the exterior
The Chaparral Lite 218SE features the following:
- Vacuum-bonded aluminum cage with dual-sided Azdel composite panels
- Equa-Flex® suspension
- Pass-through storage bay
- 20 ft. electric awning
- On-demand water heater
- Prepping for optional solar and exterior camera systems
- Solid step system and extended handrail
What I like about the 2026 Coachmen Chaparral Lite 218SE
There are several things I like about this Coachmen Chaparral Lite 218SE. Maybe you’ll appreciate them too.
- Catch-all buffet built-in at entry door (has a dedicated space for shoes below).
- Kitchen offers lots of storage and removable dinette table.
- Front bunk area has sleeping and/or storage space.
- Main bedroom features bedside shelves on both sides of the bed.
- I like the fact that there’s an operational window in the bathroom.
What I don’t like about the 2026 Coachmen Chaparral Lite 218SE
There are a few things that I dislike about this small fifth-wheel RV. See if you agree with me.
- The cargo-carrying capacity is quite limited. It would work best for weekend and short campground stays where your packing weight is limited.
- The TV is permanently mounted in an extremely awkward position for viewing.
- The kitchen really lacks prep space; however, one could prep while sitting at the table.
- Only a small child can sit comfortably on the very narrow bench by the dinette.
- The Chaparral Lite 218SE’s bathroom has limited elbow space, especially when sitting on the commode.
- I prefer a walk-in shower in lieu of the tub, but people with small children probably will appreciate it.
Overview
If your small family goes camping on the weekends or occasionally takes a week vacation together, the Coachmen Chaparral Lite 218SE is certainly an RV to consider. It does pack a lot into a small footprint. I can also see a couple enjoying this camper for short-term stays, as well. Campers who spend most of their living and cooking outdoors will likely find this RV a pretty good fit!

Personally, I don’t like walking into the bedroom to use the bathroom. Can be awkward if you have guests
Not enough specs/information. Couldn’t use it for staying in Walmart or Cracker Barrel overnight. Hopefully you can use the bathroom when traveling. Don’t see how Campers who spend most of their living and cooking outdoors will likely find this RV a pretty good fit! Since there is no outdoor kitchen.
No counter space. Using the flip-up extension appears to block access the bathroom.
Theater seating, but the TV is mounted to the left of the seats and would have to be watched at an angle.
NO fifth wheel is 1/2-ton towable! No GVWR is given for this trailer. But the loaded pin weight + the weight of 5 people (beds for 5!) + cab and truck bed cargo will far exceed the payload, axle, and braking capability of any 1/2-ton truck. Half-ton towable fifth wheels are a figment of RV manufacturers advertising departments. We had a 27’9″ Rockwood Ultra Lite fifth wheel that we had to tow with a 3/4-ton diesel truck and it undoubtedly weighed less than any 29′ fiver.
Don’t see how even us 2 retired people could use this 5th wheel. Too much “don’t likes” and barely any “likes”.
