I recently (and unexpectedly) adopted a puppy from an amazing rescue organization that specializes in pets that need rehabilitation. (Check them out at Deserving Pets Rescue.)
Bodie is a happy 4-month-old chihuahua/terrier mix tripod. (Yep, he only has three legs, but you would never know it to see him running around.) He loves being in the truck, and I think he is going to be an excellent road dog.
Our first RV adventures are coming up soon, and in preparing for them, I came across a problem that some of you might also have. Bodie LOVES looking out the window as we drive, but I have a big Ram truck, and he is a small dog. Where could he safely sit and still be able to enjoy the scenery? I needed a dog car seat that was also a booster seat.
First dog car seat
After doing some research, I ordered one from Amazon that claimed to fit all cars and trucks. It promptly got returned when the straps to secure it would not reach around the Ram truck’s seats. Not to mention, it sat far too low for Bodie to see out of the truck’s windows, even with another pillow below it.
Much better dog car seat
This led me to a much better option, the GL Glenslave dog car seat. Yes, it was a little bit more expensive than my original choice, but in my opinion, the quality upgrade was well worth it.

Now, Bodie comfortably and securely rides in his padded elevated “throne.” He sits high enough to watch out the windows when he likes, and he has a comfortable and secure bed when he wants to relax.
In every way, this dog car seat is a far higher-quality option than the first one I ordered. It is better made, more stable, and is secured by the vehicle’s seatbelt, rather than just by straps that go around the seat.
What I especially like about the GL Glenslave dog car seat and dog booster seat
• Installs in seconds using the vehicle’s seat belt and removes just as quickly and easily.
• Keeps dogs comfortable and safe while preventing distractions for the driver.
• The 6-inch high eggshell sponge foam cushion at the bottom ensures your pet can better observe the surroundings.
• Made from comfortable memory foam. It looks SO comfortable that, upon seeing this seat, a friend of mine expressed a desire for a bed like that for herself!
• Equipped with adjustable safety leashes, shoulder straps, and harness access at the bottom.
• Deep side pockets store leashes, poop bags, treats, or whatever.
• Versatile, the dog car seat can be used in the front seat, back seat, or even an SUV trunk area. If you have a motorhome, it could easily attach to any seat that has a seatbelt. And since it goes in and out so quickly and easily, you can switch up the positioning as needed.
• You can easily clean it! This dog car booster seat is fully detachable and washable. Simply unzip the bottom to remove the foam, then place the pet car bed cover into the washing machine for cleaning.
• Easy to move and use as a bed inside the RV, a tent, or even at home.
• Available in a variety of colors to fit small or medium dogs up to 35 pounds, or larger ones for up to 50 pounds (or two small dogs).
• My dog loves it and never minds spending time in it.
What can be improved?
So far, I have not found anything that needs improvement. The Glenslave dog car seat has been everything I wanted, needed, and expected. It’s still relatively new, so we will see how it holds up over time, but it appears to be very well made and strongly constructed, so I don’t anticipate any issues. Order the smaller one from Amazon here or the larger one here.

Thank you for the suggestion and discussion, Cheri. Rats! Dog #3 is too big for the larger of the two car seats. Have a great day and safe travels!
