I bought an OWLTRA® electric mouse trap for extra insurance after I had rid my travel trailer of mice. That was about a year-and-a-half ago, and after doing all the things I talked about in this post, my RV has remained rodent-free. So, I never actually had to use the trap, and the Owltra electronic mouse trap remained new in its box… until last week.
I heard the telltale sign of rustling coming from the pass-through storage under my RV bedroom. Ughhhh. Here we go again. When I searched the next day, I saw no visual rodent evidence. Maybe I was catching it early, or maybe I was imagining things.
I loaded up the electric mouse trap with four AA batteries and some peanut butter for bait and put it in the storage area. It took a few days, but then the green light appeared, signifying a mouse had been caught. YUCK.
While it’s not normally in my character, I turn into a squealing little girl when it comes to dealing with rodents. They just gross me out. But sometimes you just have to deal with them. The Owltra trap makes it as easy as possible. You barely even have to see the dead mouse, and you don’t need to get anywhere close to touching it.
Battery-powered, the mouse goes in and gets humanely electrocuted. You press a button to lift the lid off the trap to dispose of the carcass.
What I especially like about the Owltra electric mousetrap
• The unique zap system guarantees 100% elimination without causing the rodent to suffer. A set of 4AA batteries will exterminate up to 60 rats (according to the manufacturer; I have not tested this). The infrared sensor and no-escape design keep rodents in place and generate a high-voltage shock for quick elimination
• A safer alternative to using poison and chemicals: It can be placed anywhere inside your home RV.
• Child- and pet-safe: The chamber is designed with an infrared sensor and the rodent entrance on the side. It only activates when it detects a rodent inside the trap, which prevents false zaps while protecting children and pets.
• Safer to keep around inside the house than traditional mousetraps, although those do work well.
• Easy disposal: Simply pull off the trap’s lid and empty the rodent into the trash.
• Easy cleaning: Owltra deactivates automatically when the top is removed, which allows for safe and secure cleaning. Just brush some hydrogen peroxide over the chamber, and you are good to go again.
What can be improved?
At this point, nothing, although I can’t really speak to its long-term durability… yet.
The electric mouse trap makes dealing with an unpleasant task about as easy as it can get. It’s currently set again, but nothing has been caught in a few weeks, and I don’t see (or hear) any further evidence of rodents. Hopefully, I caught the new entrance point and avoided an infestation. But this trap is great extra insurance.

I also like the Owltra electric mousetrap. It works well but make sure you check on it everyday while it’s set. If you forget a few days the dead rodent will stink up the place!
Excellent point John. I do.
We have been using these about 4 years. PERFECT solution!! We simply turn the unit upside down, the rodent falls into the garbage. No hands touching anything. We reset the bait a few times a year, as the rodent never makes it to the bait. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Will it trap squirrels?
